Valkenburg, 30 July 1986.

P.3-3 of 221 Escuadron was the first Spanish Orion to visit Valkenburg.

It's preserved at the gate of Moron de la Frontera.

As we were departing Antigua one of the Azura,s sisters, the Britannia, was arriving.

P&LE 1589 is working on the branch to New Castle as it blocks the CSX main at OA Tower in Mahoningtown, PA on March 1, 1991. There was an actual tower here at one time. Of course the diamond is no longer there and even the CSX main has been rearranged through here, with the Eastbound main now on the old P&LE out of view to the left.

#213/365 I thought I'd take it easy with this one and do a close up nature shot. This is probalby what a P&S excels at the most. With a DSLR you need to buy a macro lens but with a p&s you just need to put it in flower mode and instant macro photography. (I tried to find a flower, but not sure if its the time of the year or just the intense heat we've been getting here but I came up with nothing). Enjoy your Saturday.

The BAE P.1216 was developed as a follow on to the Harrier. A limitation of the Harrier was that it was unable to achieve supersonic flight. The P.1216 was intended to remedy that with its engine and sharply swept wings. Due to the vibrations introduced by the more powerful engine, the fuselage was kept as short as possible, with distinctive twin booms going around and providing the rest of the aircraft functions.

Tested as a model in the 1980s, it was likely canceled due to the end of the Cold War and the nascent beginnings of what we know now as the F-35.

One of those “what if” aircrafT that never made it past the concept stage, with very little documentation, this jet was a bear to figure out. Without cutaways, I had to infer where fuel, weapons, engine chambers, and avionics would go to make the most sense. The most challenging part was the underside and the thrust vectoring engine. It’s a fun model to do VTOL takeoffs and landings with.

Sky pirate Grant "Mad Dog" Hendricks piloting his P-23 Skywolf. A member of the feared Crossbones Gang they terrorised air shipping, stealing cargo and holding passengers for ransom until Hendricks was finally shot down by flying ace Betty Redwing with a lucky shot to the nose! The rest of the gang were rounded up and imprisoned except for "Ratface" Watkins who escaped and was never found. The plane was originally developed for the Kovlakian Air Force and carried six "Hades" shrapnel missiles but after several incidents of its missiles misfiring and blowing up the plane, they were quietly scrapped. A few found their way onto the black market where they were snapped up by sky pirates for whom their safety record wasn't a problem...

I never got the B&P flares very often. We would stop in at Saly on trips to and from Pittsburgh to see what was parked at the station. On July 1, 2006 B&P 459 was the leader as the Southbound train does some work in Salamanca, NY. Other than the 2 flares currently working on the R&S that I have got leading several times, I think this may be the only time I caught one leading on the B&P.
