The Seealpsee lies at almost 1,700 m high above the Oytal on the southeast slope of the Schattenberg. The view from the lake to the Höfats is overwhelming.

Covão d'Ametade is one of the most beautiful places in the Serra da Estrela, it is a circular area, in the shape of an amphitheater, surrounded by granite slopes, very abrupt, monumental and overwhelming, reducing our smallness and at the bottom of which a accumulation of sediments, which make possible the development of tree vegetation.
Once a cervical pasture, today it represents a depression of glacial origin that was wooded over time with birches on the banks of the river Zêzere. It is a paradisiacal scenario.
It is in Covão d'Ametade that the river Zêzere takes shape, in the small plain originating in glacial sediments. It is a very attractive area due to the surrounding vegetation mostly composed of birch trees, a plant that has the particularity of creating an ecosystem with a great biodiversity. Although the place is close to 1500 meters of altitude, it is just not accessible on the coldest winter days. This place is sought after by winter and mountain sportsmen who choose to start their hikes and climbs along the caves and rock formations that end up next to the Cântaro Magro in this area. There are three Cântaros that rise around Covão d´Ametade: the Cântaro Raso, further south; the Cântaro Magro, central and emblematic of the entire Serra da Estrela; and Cântaro Gordo, to the north.

A forest and stream shoreline, near an Old Order Mennonite community, left a strong impression. It reminds me of the overwhelming beauty of the Fall season in Ontario.

A photographer's favorite.
A small wood framed, Gothic Revival building, it is quite straightforward in design, with a small narthex at the front of the rectangular nave, a small bell tower over the entrance and a small altar extending out the rear. The bell tower is of interesting design, rising out of the gable of the narthex, with a shingled steeple like a little brown helmet, surmounted by a wooden cross. The belfry vents, with gable tops, are open all around, exposing the 26 inch bell which still hangs within. The building is clad entirely in shingles, many of which are now coming adrift, indicating its recent years of inactivity. All openings are rectangular, lacking Gothic arches, doubtless concessions to economics and the need to complete the church in a timely fashion.
Spences Bridge is a community in the Canadian province of British Columbia, situated 35 km north east of Lytton and 44 km south of Ashcroft. In 1892, the population included 32 people of European ancestry and 130 First Nations people. There were five general stores, three hotels, one Church of England and one school. Wikipedia

Taken while on a hike through the beautiful Colorado mountains with my girls! I added a texture layer it helped to brighten some areas that were too dark without losing too much color and tone I did do some slight adjustments to the brightness and color.
(This wasn't taken with a Canon I used my Nikon D750, interestingly it added tags to this image too. I've never seen that happen before.)

BLACK CANYON of the GUNNISON NP
Deep, Steep and Narrow
Big enough to be overwhelming, still intimate enough to feel the pulse of time, Black Canyon of the Gunnison exposes you to some of the steepest cliffs, oldest rock, and craggiest spires in North America. With two million years to work, the Gunnison River, along with the forces of weathering, has sculpted this vertical wilderness of rock, water, and sky.
NEDERLANDS

the Dunnock, an overwhelmingly inconspicuous bird that in fact very much belies its meek and modest nature. It may come as some surprise to realise the Dunnock is in fact one of Britain's commonest birds - as a comparison there are approximately a third as many Dunnocks as there are Robins, though they're certainly not as visible. There's no doubt the Dunnock is one of our most regular garden inhabitants but it's unlikely to be spotted on a garden feeder
Why do I have the overwhelming urge to go somewhere far away from it all and sink into quiet oblivion? Something to do with what's happening later this week? Maybe. Anyway, in Second Life I've checked into the Saint Pete City hotel for a bit of rest and relaxation, wearing the beautiful new Catwa hairbase and hair that's available now from Kustom9. The tiara* is meant for the new Truth hairs at Epiphany - I'll show you one of those tomorrow.
* the tiara is actually a crown but worn like this it looks just like a tiara!!
We as a family know the pain and overwhelming grief of losing a child to stillbirth. My daughter was helped through her grief by the wonderful people at Sids and Kids. She has entered a contest (Canon Creative for a Cause Competiton) to win $60,000 for the charity of her choice and has chosen SIDS. You can view her photo at

Missnoma (Claire) described the window "seems to be a mother's bowed head in grief and the shape of an S for Sids" and I think she described it perfectly.

First of all, I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming positive response to yesterday's upload, which I didn't think was special at all, it was just a handheld mid-morning shoot at a roadside rest area, I'm still baffled..... So here's more Taranaki, long after sunset, it was actually pitch black and Lake Mangamahoe wouldn't give me any reflections even if I pronounced the bitch correctly, so I tried to get as low and close as I could.... Big mistake. I ended up falling INTO the lake, with one arm holding the tripod with camera attached, the other one trying to get back up the muddy cliffside. A major disaster averted and the camera undamaged, I decided to shoot from the safety of the nice flat grassy area above, using a flashlight to illuminate the nasty foreground vegetation which camouflaged the hole I fell through.
After the overwhelming success of my Flux series and your very encouraging comments, I am glad to announce that I have found some more shots in my archive that might work with this kind of motion blur processing. This particular image was taken back in 2007, shortly after I had purchased my first DSLR. I certainly would never have thought that I might dig it up seven years later and turn it into something special.
Enjoy!
One golden rule I follow in landscape photography is to always explore thoroughly what lies behind me, especially when i'm facing an overwhelming spot, as other excellent views are frequently overlooked in those situations. Aldeyjarfoss is such a case. The waterfall is extraordinary but what's behind you is equally beautiful (to me, is even better!). It is a brutal landscape, its dimension overwhelming you with the rocks, ice, water and mountains in the distance partially covered by the clouds/fog, creating an eerie look (you see the water but there is silence all around you as it runs way way lower). It is a grandiose scenery. Most probably the one I’ve been most impressed with, ever.
And it came to me as a surprise. A big one! I had explored the place prior to the trip (based on Web content), but hadn’t seen any images or references to this view. After photographing the waterfall, when I explored my whereabouts, I found this view just a couple of hundred meters away. An unforgettable experience!

Having a great vista in front of you can be overwhelming, and makes it easy to overlook the details in the landscape. Often I do like intimate photographs even more than major landscapes, as I think they have a more timeless quality to them. But I have to admit in this case I like the grand vista from Háifoss more. Still, I like to show this dark image of one off the smaller waterfalls too. For me it has that intimate feel to it and it also complements the wide angle shot in telling a small story. Hope you like it too!
Thanks for having a look! All faves and comments are highly appreciated!

even though it was a wild windy day walking around Cam Loch towards Suilvan, and it was quite hazy, there's an overwhelming calm in such a landscape. A beautiful peace by Robert Wyatt is fine, and sums up how i feel on days like these.
The severe drought that had affected much of Catalunya had broken and these massive overwhelming clouds over the Garraf Massif were a sign of more rain to come. Now months later reservoir levels are still far below normal and we wait for more rain.

This is a photo of an exhibit (statues), in the Sabarmati Ashram museum, that recreates the famous Salt March, an overwhelmingly popular act of non-violent civil disobedience in colonial India initiated by Mahatma Gandhi.
