Day 3 we reached the mooring spot for the old Overland Corner Pub. Bushrangers, overlanders, ghosts and a beer! The Historic Overland Corner Hotel is both pub and living museum. Captain Charles Sturt’s whaleboard expedition carried the first Europeans to Overland Corner. Pioneering pastoralists and overlanders recognised the potential of the area and Overland Corner quickly became the administrative and cultural centre of the region. With sly grog shops appearing in the area in the late 1850s, John Chambers recognised the need for a licensed hotel and completed the first stage of construction of the Overland Corner Hotel in 1860. In 1897 to 1913 the Hotel became a post office, witnessing the transition from horse-drawn coach to motor-mail and ‘modern’ coach services.

This 1916 Overland was manufactured in Toledo, Oh by the Willys-Overland company. It has a four cylinder engine, wood-spoked wheels, two-wheel brakes and no shock absorbers. In 1915, the company was second only to Ford in sales. Willys-Overland and Ford were responsible for the production of the Jeep during WWII.
The Overland service to Adelaide heads away down grade having passed over the North Melbourne Dual Gauge flyover with NR99 leading.

Great Overland Station in Topeka, Kansas began as a Union Pacific railroad passenger station on January 27, 1927. Along the way, it survived floods, was remodeled for railroad offices, abandoned in 1988, and damaged by fire in 1992. Railroad Heritage, Inc. leased the building from the Union Pacific Railroad to prevent the building's demolition.
Union Pacific Corporation donated the station to Topeka Railroad Days, Inc. 6 years later, and the Great Overland Station Project Team was established to direct efforts to preserve the station and transform it into a railroad heritage museum. In June 2004, The Great Overland Station opened its doors.
The Great Overland Station is quite beautiful, and this is a spectacular special event space, but as of the beginning of 2006, Great Overland Station is still building toward its potential. When I visited the museum in 2006, there wasn't enough to make the Station a destination for anyone but serious train buffs. Other then the structure itself, the biggest attraction is the 100 or so freight trains that pass the building daily. Perhaps more can be done with Topeka's connection to the Harvey House restaurant chain.
Harvey House Luncheons and tours of the Great Overland Station are available to groups with advance reservations.
Even though I had rain and snow during my 12 hour journey with the Overlander Train from Auckland to Wellington, I had beautiful views of the North Island's Countryside.
Most of the main shaping is done. I left it rough on purpose because I want texture anyway. At t his point I am using ALEX PLUS calk to fill in spots and add minor changes to how the course flows. I did several coats in some spots.
