Taking work very seriously seemed to be equated with art at that time. this sketch was the result of working overtime resulting often enough to have the finances to afford having a variety of cars, but no spare time to repair or enjoy them. Sometimes, I felt an emptiness and separation of reality during my labors indicated by the partial exclusion and incompletion of the skull at the top of the head of this self-portrait. The funnel and balls represent the interacting communications, orders and commands that were received and the dialogue between the employees that took place during work. The base resembled a light bulb which symbolized us as lighting technicians.

Having a great time in Florida :-) My camera is working overtime :-)

HEPBURN FLAWLESS CHAMPIONS

The Hepburn Seniors netball team made club history on Saturday by icing the perfect CHNL season with a Grand Final win in overtime against a defiant Waubra. Continuing their unbeaten run for 2011, the Burras took out the premiership for the 1st time in a gruelling battle in wet conditions.

There was a large crowd there to watch the two teams in what was expected to be a tough game for both. Fifth placed Waubra having strength and height in attack had begun to peak at the right time of the year, knocking out other top 4 teams to be there. However Hepburn had speed and strength in defence and had been focussing on their challenge for sometime.

First centre pass to the Burras was turned over due to an early error allowing Waubra to take the first couple of goals. Settling quickly, a composed Hepburn began to find their rhythm and push the ball down court and into their goals. Waubra seemed to look lost for options once Hepburn grabbed a 4 goal lead, but full court defensive pressure kept them to within one at half time.

Waubra’s Goal Shooter, Kelly Moran and Hepburn’s Goal Keeper, Ebony Place were providing the crowd with a display of outstanding skills and footwork. Backed up by Sarah Dowell at Goal Defence, the Burras slowly managed to upset Waubra’s shooters and allow Hepburn to take a 4 goal lead at three quarter time. With the flag in sight, the Burras only had to maintain possession.

Waubra had changed it’s attacking line up in an attempt to open space in the circle. Applying physical pressure through the mid court, Waubra began to outscore Hepburn and close the gap in the dying minutes. With Waubra about to take the lead, Goal Keeper Ebony Place successfully produced the rejection of the year on her tall shooter and managed to keep the ball in Hepburn’s possession and cause a draw at the final whistle, getting Hepburn off the hook.

The atmosphere was intense as both teams re-grouped and prepared themselves for the final 10 minutes of overtime. Hepburn’s Goal Attack Kristina Clohesy stepped it up a gear and played one of her best games for the season. The Burras were prepared to move the ball quickly down court in an attempt to shake off a tight Waubra defence. Remembering the pain of last years grand final loss, Hepburn began to exert more pressure and manage to pull out that extra bit of effort in the dying seconds and hold on for a 2 goal win, 41 to 39.

“A perfect way to finish off a flawless year” said Coach Gary Cooke. “The girls have worked incredibly hard all year for this win and they really deserve to be the CHNL Champions”.

These guys were well over 6 stories off the ground on an unfinished overhang. Storms were blowing in, these were the only workers in sight.

It was a magic season for the Syracuse Academy of Science girls basketball team.

The #SASAtoms accomplished a lot - winning the program's first Section III title and advancing to the state final four.

SAS missed out on only one goal, as Section IX champion Millbrook bested the Atoms, 67-64, in overtime in the Class C state championship game at Hudson Valley Community College.

"We came up short, but we accomplished a whole lot," #SASCS coach Reggie Pickard said after his team came out on the short end of the 4-minute extra session, during which the Atoms led three times before surrendering the final four points. "Overtime game, we lost to a great team, a well-coached team."

SAS, who finish 19-5, lost despite a determined effort from senior Lyrik Jackson, who led the Atoms with 24 points and 15 rebounds, and junior Diamonne Harris, who added 23 points.

"She made a big difference," Pickard said.

Millbrook led the whole way, until there was just one minute left in regulation. A basket by Jackson tied the game at 54-54.

The Blazers pushed the lead back to four points with 34 seconds left, but SAS got a pair of free throws from Jackson to pull within two and 6-0 sophomore Erykah Pasha sent the game into overtime by converting two free throws with no time left on the clock after she was fouled on a put back attempt at the buzzer.

The Atoms led three times in the extra session - 60-59, 62-61 and 64-63 - before the Blazers got their final points from reserve junior forward Claire Martell, who hit a basket and two free throws in the final 45 seconds.

Pickard said he told his players to keep their heads high.

"I just told them they had no reason to hang their heads," said Pickard, who started the varsity program at SAS in 2010. "We set a goal at the beginning of the season. We reached our goal, but we just came up short."

Pickard said his all-state senior, Jackson, was all heart.

"She played hurt. She twisted her ankle early on. Her shoulder was still sore from the fall yesterday. She was banged up. But she gave it her all. She gave it her heart," he said.

The coach said he hoped the Atoms would be back, albeit probably in a higher classification. Nearly everyone associated with Section III basketball expects that SAS will be moved up in class by the competition committee.

UPDATE: 69 minutes and 3 seconds into overtime the Dallas Stars scored and win the series!
