Dark, swirling supercell storm clouds dominate the sky, looming over a vast expanse of farmland. A lone tree stands resilient against the ominous backdrop, while a faint outline of buildings can be seen beneath the menacing cloud front.

#92 in my 100 x challenge - Monochrome
It's been a very long day travelling back from Malta, unpacking and picking Bruno up from his holiday home. So another desperate last minute one. We brought some maple syrup back from Canada, this is the empty (maple leaf shaped) bottle...well, part of it.

The reticulated giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata), also known as the Somali giraffe, is a subspecies of giraffe native to Somalia, southern Ethiopia, and northern Kenya. Reticulated giraffes can interbreed with other giraffe subspecies in captivity or if they come into contact with populations of other subspecies in the wild.
Together with the Rothschild giraffe, it is by far the giraffe most commonly seen in zoos. Its coat consists of large, polygonal, liver-colored spots outlined by a network of bright-white lines. The blocks may sometimes appear deep red and may also cover the legs.
The extraordinary height of the Reticulated Giraffe allows them to browse on branches of trees that other hoofed animals cannot reach. This has helped make the Reticulated Giraffe one of the most successful animals of the African savannah.
The Reticulated Giraffe feeds mainly on Acacia and Combretum trees, however, it will eat as many as 100 different plants depending on which are available at the time.
The Reticulated Giraffe gets a large amount of water from the dew on the leaves and from the water in the leaves. When it encounters a watering hole, it will drink up to 12 gallons at one time. – Wikipedia
The challenge is "backlit close up"
The first buds on the apple tree, lit from behind by the setting sun. The little leaves are about 2 or 3 cms tall, but I didn't want to crop the shot, as the sun made a lovely semi-circle flare. So I hope this SOOC offering is close-up enough ;o)
Happy Smile on Saturday! ;o)

At 80 Ann Street, Brisbane.
"What becomes of the clouds
Megan Cope’s work draws on the archives and historical maps to create important public documents of Indigenous knowledge, memory and experiences.
Cope’s work echoes the landscape and history and in this work remembers the creek which used to run through the 80 Anne St site.
The waterway outline underfoot in the marble terrazzo directs the public's movement through the laneway while the glass and light sculpture in the ceiling follows the undulation and waterflow from the river to the reservoir simultaneously corresponding to the brass inlay, connecting land to sky and the relationship water plays within that space.
The creek was a life-source for everyone directing Indigenous then later European settler movements through the landscape. The banks of the creek and its water’s movement has been interrupted many times throughout history
—a reservoir was placed upstream during early European settlement and the creek disappeared from maps by the late 1870s and was eventually built into a drain. The brass outline of the creek is based on a lithograph map of Brisbane from 1863 which is visible on the glass gate at the entrance at night.

The Keep ! Well it has that look to me even if in reality it is a water pumping station in Leatherhead . Way back as a child , this building always looked intimidating and dramatic and not nice place , so with this history and the artwork for the film The Keep , the two places have a similar feel . The Keep in my head is from a Micheal Mann film from 1983 with a soundtrack by Tangerine Dream , a dark movie set in World War Two

The shot was taken for Saturday Self Challenge 30/03/2024 - Right Angles .
I think with a little help from it's late Art Deco design there quite a few right angles to find and I think I have found a few right angles here - from all the right angles , internal and external of the building outline , right angles in the panes of the windows , and designs in the doors . There are more r.angles on the door surrounds and the sign above , then the brick pillars on the pillars of the entrance gates and then all of the street furniture , signs , lampposts , junction boxes and even in the topiary !!
Needles to say I have not attempted to count how many right angles can be found in this shot - all I can say is that there could well be over six hundred right angles at a very rough guess !!
For a Sight & Sound I have chosen one of the tracks from the film ( the middle of the three ) , but I always think they should be played together -----

You left me here, like a chalk outline on the sidewalk
waiting for the rain to wash away... Wash away. You keep coming back to the scene of the crime but the dead can't speak and there's nothing left to say anyway... All you left behind. Is a chalk outline.
