Abudlla Essa Mussa, an orthopaedic technician at the Diana ortho-prosthetic rehabilitation centre (DPLC) in Erbil governorate, adjusts the balancing mechanism on a prosthetic device. Abudlla was trained by both international and national ortho-prosthetic experts since his started at DPLC in 1995 to become an orthopedic technician and has been helping landmine victims for 11 years.

Ministry of Health rehabilitation centre, Baghdad. A health ministry technician works on a sample prosthesis with the support of an ICRC staff member. The ICRC provides training and materials for the production of prostheses and orthoses. The ICRC supports 10 orthopaedic centres throughout Iraq.

Protesters against the closure of Cork's Orthopaedic Hospital marched from the Northside of the city to the centre. Here they have just passed the former North Infirmary hospital which was closed in the late 1980s. The closure of the Orthopaedic leaves the Northside of the city with no hospital.

Hidden and slowly decaying amongst beautiful gardens is St Gerard’s Orthopaedic Hospital. It was also used for the treatment of TB. Along the side of the wards are barn doors that would open and let the air in. It closed in 1988, and yet the leg braces, salt bath and letters from Mother Superior are left behind.
Having played handball competitively for 39 years and a practicing orthopaedic surgeon for 26 years, Robert Snyder, MD has treated a number of handball players for hip and knee ailments. It was inevitable that he would need treatment on his knee for DJD.
After three arthroscopic procedures on his right knee, including a meniscal allograft, Dr. Snyders lateral knee compartment continued to degenerate. For two years, despite playing in an un-loading brace, he was unable to make the handball movements required at his competitive level. Dr. Snyder found himself competing in the consolation brackets of tournaments.
In late 2009, Dr. Snyder began investigating available treatment options. Based on his experience and
desire to return to activity, he was particularly interested in the ligament preserving and minimally traumatic solution offered by unicompartmental knee arthroplasty. Dr. Snyder researched available options and was intrigued by the ConforMIS iUni. After observing an iUni procedure performed by Wolfgang Fitz, MD, he decided that the iUni was the right solution for him. Dr. Snyder received his own right lateral iUni in November of 2009.
At 2 weeks post-op, Dr. Snyder returned to a full surgical schedule. At 6 weeks post-op he returned to the courts and was free of pain. Today, he is eager to enter the 2010 tournament season.

The badge on the man's right arm implies that he is a medic. If anyone out there can infer anything else from the initials on his arm, please leave a note.
Royal Navy Hospital Haslar
The hospital from which the card was sent began life in Gosport as a Royal Navy hospital in 1753. In 1902 the hospital became known as the Royal Navy Hospital Haslar.
In the 1940's, RNH Haslar set up the country's first blood bank in order to help treat injured sailors from WW2.
In 1966 the remit of the hospital expanded to serve all 3 services - the Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force. In the same year it became known as the Royal Hospital Haslow. The hospital grounds are said to contain the bodies of at least 20,000 service personnel.
In 2001 the provision of acute healthcare within the hospital was transferred to the NHS Trust.
The last military-run ward was E5, an orthopaedic surgery ward. This closed in 2007, and the hospital itself closed in the summer of 2009, with the site being sold.
