Dankzij de film Banditi a Orgosolo (Vittorio de Seta) is dit dorp op Sardinië beroemd en berucht. Inmiddels zijn de meeste bandieten met pensioen, maar saai is Orgosolo zeker niet. De prachtige murales, kleurrijke muurschilderingen, maken een wandeling door het dorp, niet ver van Nuoro, meer dan bijzonder.De eerste muurschildering van Orgosolo is gemaakt door een groep Milanese anarchisten in 1969. Al snel volgden er meer. Zowel de lokale bevolking als kunstenaars van buitenaf gebruikten de muren van Orgosolo als klankbord voor hun ideeën. De meeste murales gaan over sociale, historische of politieke thema’s. Er zijn inmiddels meer dan 150 verschillende muurschilderingen te zien in het dorp. We delen alvast een aantal van de murales:

“ la rivolta popolare degli Orgolesi contro l’occupazione militare di 13 mila ettari di pascoli. È la storia di un mese frenetico e senza sonno, di una lotta senza partito che avrà la meglio sulle migliaia di soldati e sulle decisioni prese a Roma. Tutto ha inizio il 27 maggio 1969 quando sui muri ancora spogli di Orgosolo compaiono dei manifesti intestati alla Brigata Trieste. Il testo impone ai pastori e ai braccianti agricoli che lavorano in territorio di Pratobello di abbandonare la zona e trasferire il bestiame altrove. Perché per due mesi il terreno da pascolo sarà un poligono di tiro. A questa notizia se ne aggiunge un’altra, non ufficiale, che circola in Paese: quello che il Governo Italiano chiama “poligono temporaneo” mira in realtà a diventare un campo di addestramento e tiro permanente.”

Orgosolo is a sleepy town in old bandit country in Sardinia, Italy. Carrying on in an anarchic vein, its murals were started in the 1960s as a response to recession and social discontent. Some are in memory of the partisans who fought against Facism, others are about women's rights.

Orgosolo, una comunità posta al margine settentrionale della Barbagia, raccoglie in sé immagini e simboli della cultura barbaricina: alcune di esse si proiettano vistosamente sui muri delle abitazioni e gli occhi del viaggiatore non possono fare a meno di notarle.
Sono i famosi murales, circa 100 suggestivi ritratti di memoria e vita sociale.
Tinte sui muri che narrano le fatiche, le denunce e le grandi conquiste di una piccola comunità, colorati racconti di storia quotidiana che si intrecciano armonicamente alla raffigurazione di eventi e di lotte politiche di respiro mondiale.
Come molte altre espressioni di vita orgolese, comunicano all'osservatore una vasta gamma di impressioni che forse è impossibile riscontrare altrove: vi si leggono i malesseri, le speranze, i disagi e gli aneliti di una comunità che ha vissuto, forse, il senso di esclusione e di non appartenenza ad un mondo dai troppi volti contraddittori.
Sotto questo segno, sul finire degli anni '60, comparvero i murales.
Sin dall'origine i bersagli dei muralisti furono i governi sopraffattori e i fautori di ingiustizie sociali, soprattutto lo stato italiano e l'America imperialista e guerrafondaia.
Il primo murale fu realizzato nel 1969, negli anni della contestazione giovanile, dal gruppo anarchico milanese "Dioniso".
Nel 1975, in occasione del trentennale della Resistenza e della Liberazione l'insegnante toscano Francesco Del Casino ed i suoi alunni della scuola media di Orgosolo realizzarono altri murales, ed in seguito si aggiunse il contributo di altri artisti fra i quali il pittore orgolese Pasquale Buesca e il gruppo culturale locale "Le Api"
Circa il 90 per cento dei murales di Orgosolo sono opera di Del Casino: il suo è un singolare e inconfondibile stile pittorico.

Like many other expressions of life orgolese, communicate to the viewer a variety of impressions that perhaps it is impossible find elsewhere: there you read the discomfort, the hopes, the hardships and the yearnings of a community that has lived, perhaps, the sense of exclusion and not belonging to a world of too many faces contradictory.
Under this sign, in the late '60s, appeared in the murals.
Outset the targets of muralists were overpowering governments and advocates of social injustices, especially the Italian state and the imperialist America and warmongering.
The first wall was built in 1969, in the years of youth protest from the anarchist group Milanese "Dionysus".
In 1975, on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Resistance and Liberation teacher Tuscan Francesco Del Casino and his pupils in the Orgosolo school realized other murals, and later joined the contribution of other artists including the painter orgolese Pasquale Buesca and the local cultural group "Le Api".
About 90 percent of the murals of Orgosolo are by Casino: his is a unique and unmistakable style of painting.

Finally i had the chance to get my hand on some fresh Orwo C5168 chemistry for a proper development of this old color film. Since my test on c41 developing were a total failure, i shot some rolls during last year hoping to find the proper chems. I have to say that i love these results, i'm happy i managed to get the best out of this very odd film.
