I will forever champion the bullied and those unable to stand up for themselves, so when I stumbled into Color the World Orange , I was all in. This beautiful build is a place created to raise awareness about the United Nations' Orange the World campaign which seeks to end gender-based violence. #orangetheworld

To make it even better, this gorgeous statue of Lady Carmagnolle by Bryn Oh is used as a centerpiece to this lovely and important place. To read more about Color the World Orange and some of the Art there please follow this link to my blog.

Why having this campaign in our virtual world?

Let's face it! Gender-based abuse also exists virtually, it may be in an unintentional or intentional form. The extent of this violence may not be physical but will always result to short-term or long-term emotional trauma and anxiety to the member victims resulting to a violation of the Community of Standards (not TOS) of SL. Raising awareness in our SL community will give us reminders that one cannot just violate and do things according to their pleasure in-world with the expense of another person/ persons. It is time to at least put light into this issue by supporting us.

Looking forward to joining us! This will be an awareness campaign and participation are free!

A dedication for March 8, International Women's Day

but every day is a Woman Day.

And for May 14, the Mother's Day, of course <3

Edit: And today Sat. Nov. 25 2023, World Day for the elimination of gender-based violence, let's #orangetheworld to #stopviolence !

...Or, as Friend Aurelio says For Women today, everyday !

I was used to see my Amaryllis* plant blooming 2 symmetrical flowers, one opposite to the other. This time it blossomed three and the third and last (in the middle) just flowered this morning.

*Correct botanical name of these flowers above: Hippeastrum (genre Amaryllis).

Shot today in manual modality, in natural in-door noon light with my glorious Fujifilm XS-1 and its potent hyperzoom Fujinon lenses 624, an almost vintage camera exemplair bought last year pristine in box from the collection of a photographer. A great camera, a little complex as it's needed every time a manual set up and equalization of colours but apt to give true tones and such detailed textures in the things photographed that usually escape to the eye sight.

"The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, held on 25 November, marks the start of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence, ending on 10 December, Human Rights Day. While lockdown measures aim to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, reports have shown an alarming increase in the pandemic of violence against women during this time. In May 2020, an article in the British Medical Journal1 stated that “the United Nations Population Fund has warned that continuing lockdowns for six months could result in an extra 31 million cases of gender-based violence globally”." (www.2020yearofthenurse.org/story/international-day-for-th...)

"The United Nations General Assembly has designated November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Resolution 54/134). The premise of the day is to raise awareness of the fact that women around the world are subject to rape, domestic violence and other forms of violence; furthermore, one of the aims of the day is to highlight that the scale and true nature of the issue is often hidden." (Wikipedia)

I'll be honest: until this year I hadn't heard of this day. Although it's so important to be aware of it.

ABOUT THIS YEAR*S CAMPAIGN:

www.unwomen.org/en/news-stories/in-focus/2021/11/in-focus...

25 November is the International Day to End Violence against Women & the world 🌎 is turning orange to stand against gender-based violence. Let’s kick off the #16Days of Activism and #OrangeTheWorld!

Nearly 1 in 3 women have been abused in their lifetime. In times of crises, the numbers rise, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic and recent humanitarian crises, conflicts and climate disasters.

While the pandemic of violence against women is not new, it’s not inevitable, unless we stay silent.

ABUSE IS NOT ALWAYS PHYSICAL.

This abuse can we also experience online specially here in SL.

Often we hear these:

- Women can't do anything.

- She's just a girl.

- You're not even pretty.

- I never wanted a daughter.

- You cannot wear that.

- You need to lose some weight or you'll never find anybody.

- You're useless.

- Don't be such a woman.

Abuse is not always physical and it doesn’t leave visible scars. #colortheworldorange #OrangeTheWorld #16Days

A call to action: Second Life photo enthusiasts, bloggers or sim explorers are welcome to visit ARTSVILLE (in orange hues) and be part of the campaign by taking photos and sharing their experiences from the sim. In this way we can raise awareness of this meaningful cause by coloring our SL and Flickr worlds - ORANGE in 16 days.

COLOR THE WORLD ORANGE FLICKR

The global theme for this year is “UNITE! Activism to end violence against women and girls”.

UN WOMEN LINK about the campaign.
