In my hospital room bathroom for the first time.

Closeup of the stitches in my chin and lip. These extend into my mouth, under my tongue and up around to my uvula.

Radiation burns worsening about a week or two after treatments stopped.

The dark red area of my tongue is precancerous tissue, while the barely seen white area is the actual oral cancer. The tumor was fairly aggressive. All of the cancerous and precancerous tissue was removed, with lab certified clean edges.

This gentleman is about 50yrs old who has been roasting his mouth and lungs with Bidi smoke( crude form a cigarette) for the last 20 years. He is a diabetic. He got hooked to this addiction while experimenting with tobacco alongwith his peer-group. He just came to me for a unrelated dental problem and I discovered this lesion. Biopsy will be done and appropriate treatment given.

Tobacco's Deadly Seduction :- Women! About 200 million of the world's one billion smokers are women. The tobacco industry aggressively targets women in order to increase its consumer base and to replace those consumers who quit or who die prematurely from cancer, heart attack, stroke, emphysema or other tobacco-related disease. Girls and boys start using tobacco for different reasons, and tobacco use harms women and men differently.

Every year, on 31 May, WHO and partners everywhere mark World No Tobacco Day, highlighting the health risks associated with tobacco use and advocating for effective policies to reduce tobacco consumption. Tobacco use is the single most preventable cause of death globally and is currently responsible for killing one in 10 adults worldwide.

This is the photograph of a 42-years old male who had been addicted to Bidi ( a crude form of cigarette) for the last 25years. Somehow, he has left this habit just two months ago. He came to me with the complaint of irritation while eating anything. Clinically, this is Oral leukoplakia -- a precancerous condition. Now, biopsy of this lesion will be done to ascertain the nature of this lesion.

This 60-year gentleman has a pre-cancerous lesion in his mouth. This condition is called Oral Leukoplakia. He had the habit of dipping the Tobacco-lime mixture in the mouth for many years. When I tried to persuade him to kick this bloody habit, he immediately agreed. He vividly remembered that I had given him the same advice last years also. I also realised the importance of repeated counselling of these tobacco - addicts.

Finally at home, the cuts are healing nicely. The staples are out of my chest and the sutures in my neck and mouth eventually dissolve. You can see the marks where the two drain tubes were under my chest wound. There are two more on either side of the bottom of my neck wound. Those sucked.

Because of the early detection of cancer, patients can be treated and the chances of survival increases. Below discussed are some of the common forms of cancer.

A good look at the scars. I was trying to show the radiation burns, but they didn't show up as well as I would have liked. You can see where my hair has fallen out in the back.

A brush biopsy is a painless test that collects cells from the tumour by brushing them onto a slide.A tissue biopsy involves removing a piece of tissue so it can be examined under a microscope for cancerous cells

My lips are shiny because they've got vaseline on them. I can't open my mouth of move my tongue to lick them so they get very chapped in the dry hospital air.

Not too steady on my feet yet. The yellow wristband is so staff knows this. "Fall risk".

Deceptively benign looking Cisplatin.

These things were like 2 liter bottles hanging there. Took about 4 hours to get it all in me. Following saline and potassium and other diuretics and anti-nausea meds, that is.

The cut on my chest, which is held closed with staples, is from the skin graft and tissue transplant. In addition to taking skin and using that to reconstruct the back of my mouth, they took muscle and tissue and used that to rebuild my neck area where the lymph nodes and some tissue were removed.

I am an American.

I pay taxes.

I worked.

I was the guy who worked in his field for 20 years until the economy collapsed.

Then I was the guy who brought you your pizza. You know, a job? Not unemployment.

Then I got cancer.

Minimum wage and part-time insurance meant I needed Arizona's welfare, AHCCCS (Access),

Or I needed to gather my affairs.

Minimum wage meant I made too much money, according to Access, and I am denied Access.

Cancer solves the problem and removed my ability to work.

Access approved.

Despite what you've been told, the hospital WILL turn you away if you're broke.

Despite what you've been told, churches and private institutions will NOT pay your medical expenses.

I was diagnosed April 1st, 2011 and had major surgery on May 12th.

I am still recovering from radiation and chemo treatments ended in August.

I am aline because I am unemployed.

Does any of this make sense?

I am the 99%
