The Sacred Way to the oracle at Delphi. The oracle was consulted before major undertakings, such as wars. The priestess ("Sibyl") chanted prophecies, which were then interpreted by a priest to the enquirer.
The path to the oracle is dotted with memorials erected by the city-states to express their gratitude. For example, to the left is the Treasury of the Athenians, built after the Battle of Marathon.
