The RV Sikuliaq is an American research vessel owned by the National Science Foundation and operated by the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. Built in 2014 by Marinette Marine Corporation in Marinette, Wisconsin, the $200 million versel named after the Iñupiaq word for "young sea ice" and pronounced "see-KOO-lee-auk", will be homeported in Seward, Alaska.
With most shortlines generally operating on weekdays, I had to take advantage of an entire Wednesday off work yesterday. Initially I had planned to head east to Delaware on good authority that ESPN would run a blue and yellow trio out of Wilsmere, but when I punched this into the GPS I must've had a brainfart of some sort, as it began taking me west towards the MMID. By the time I noticed my mistake I was already half way to Union Bridge, so turning around would've been of a low mental standard. Instead I caught up to UBHF at Thurmont, where I was very pleasantly surprised to see a lashup of three flared 40's and a pair of oldies in tow, lined up with the 2060 facing east for the return. After a westbound chase to Highfield, I set up in Sabillasville after scoping out all the possible eastbound angles and settled for this winner. A nerve-wracking two hours later, and surely not long before the shadows consumed the ROW, the screaming dynamics of the MMID quintet could be heard roaring down the mountain, and a scene for the ages was converted into pixels.
The real Story behind the Peaky Blinders was a street gang based in Birmingham, England, that operated from the 1880s until the 1910s. The group, which grew out of the harsh economic deprivations of working-class Britain, comprised largely of young men from lower to middle-class backgrounds and they derived social power from robbery, violence, racketeering, illegal bookmaking, and the control of gambling. Members of this gang wore a signature outfit that included tailored jackets, lapel overcoats, button waistcoats, silk scarves, bell-bottom trousers, leather boots, and peaked flat caps, which they had a practice of sewing razor blades into the peaks of their caps!

When operating this lock at the Grand Union Canal in Watford you would notice two things: one, this is an extremely solid device and all hand-made. Two, you need a big steel handle and a lot of elbow grease to operate this lock. This is yesterday's technology, so forget about your mobile phone or your remote control. Photographically speaking, I had taken a small and very light camera (Fuji X-E3) and an even lighter all-rounder (pancake) lens when exploring Cassiobury Park in Watford where you have the River Gade and the Grand Union Canal in the centre. It was a surprise to myself that I found that my most interesting shots were not panoramas of the river or so, but these close-ups of human design.
BNSF operated a road dozer today from Superior to Cass Lake. Not much snow around the Twin Ports given frequent train movements but west of Brookston there was enough to really throw at 45 mph. With Boswell coal trains routed through Superior since last fall the line west of Cohasset was prime for some snow throwing. Here the dozer train nears Cass Lake, creating a ground blizzard as it blasts west. I'm not standing on the rail, the track curves off to the left here.
Bangor Station
Bangor railway station is a railway station in Bangor, Gwynedd, operated by Transport for Wales Rail. The station, which is 24+3⁄4 miles east of Holyhead, is the last mainland station on the North Wales Coast line between Crewe and Holyhead.
Thunderstorms gather over the Book Cliffs to the north as three Rio Grande Tunnel Motors put their train together at the ECDC landfill at East Carbon, Utah, on October 5, 2004. This local train (LJP45) operated from Helper to East Carbon and return and was nicknamed the “dirt train” because of the contaminated dirt (as well as municipal trash, etc.) it hauled up the old Sunnyside Branch.
While out shooting I noticed a crop duster operating in the field next to me but didn't think much about it until the noise grew louder and I turned to see this. Immediately the famous crop duster scene in North By Northwest came to mind. I was tempted to run and make my escape but I'm no Cary Grant so I decided to take the photo instead.

C-FHCM, a Boeing 737-8 MAX 8, on approach to runway 24R at Toronto Pearson International Airport at Mississauga, Ontario. It was arriving as WJA658 (WestJet Airlines Ltd.) from Calgary, Alberta.
Having not operated its fleet of MAX 8s since March 13, 2019, when Transport Canada grounded the type, WestJet placed them back into service on January 21, 2021.
Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. It is located approximately 3 miles (5 km) south-west of Ripon in North Yorkshire, near to the village of Aldfield. The marbachsee was originally built between 1978 and 1982 by the Mümling Water Association, which operates the reservoir, for flood control purposes, but has officially also served as a recreational area since 1986.
The primary reason for building the Marbach Reservoir was flood protection for the towns and villages downstream. Because the Marbach stream has a relatively large catchment area, the Mümling's discharge capacity could easily be exceeded after periods of rain or snowmelt. Since the dam's completion, the Marbach's flow into the Mümling can be controlled.
A small hydroelectric power plant with a capacity of 80 kW was attached to the Marbach Reservoir. At full capacity, the Marbach Reservoir is the largest body of still water in the Odenwald region.
Another reason for constructing the Marbach Reservoir was its use for recreation and leisure. Activities possible there include swimming, boating, windsurfing, sailing, fishing, and hiking.
The Marbach Reservoir is divided into three sections from west to east:
"Bird sanctuary" with a nature reserve island; officially not a bird or nature reserve
Bathing area with a beach, sunbathing lawn, and bathing islands
Surfing and sailing area for boats with a sail area of up to 3.5 m².
Der Marbach-Stausee wurde von 1978 bis 1982 vom Wasserverband Mümling, welcher der Betreiber der Stauanlage ist, ursprünglich zum Hochwasserschutz erbaut, dient aber offiziell seit 1986 auch der Erholung.
Hauptanlass zum Bau des Marbach-Stausees war der Hochwasserschutz der talabwärts liegenden Orte. Da der Marbach ein relativ großes Einzugsgebiet aufweist, konnte nach Regen- oder Schmelzperioden leicht die Abflusskapazität der Mümling übertroffen werden. Seit der Fertigstellung der Talsperre lässt sich der Zufluss des Marbachs in die Mümling kontrollieren.
Der Marbach-Talsperre wurde ein kleines Wasserkraftwerk mit 80 kW Leistung angegliedert. Der Marbach-Stausee bei Vollstau das flächenmäßig größte Stillgewässer des Odenwaldes.
Ein weiterer Grund zur Errichtung des Marbach-Stausees war die Nutzung zu Erholungs- und Freizeitzwecken. Zu dort möglichen Aktivitäten gehören: Baden, Bootfahren, Windsurfen, Segeln, Angeln und Wandern.
Die Fläche des Marbach-Stausees ist von West nach Ost in drei Abschnitte unterteilt: „Vogelschutzgebiet“ mit Naturschutzinsel; offiziell kein Vogel- oder Naturschutzgebiet
"Badebereich" mit Badestrand, Liegewiese und Badeinseln und "Surf- und Segelbereich" für Boote bis 3,5 m² Segelfläche.

Operating in true C&NW left handed fashion, this eastbound pig train has just departed Boone after a crew change. They are passing under the old Fort Dodge, Des Moines & Southern Railway bridge on the east side of town. The Fort Dodge Line was started as an electrified interurban hauling passengers and freight. After passenger service ceased, their freight business was lucrative enough that the C&NW bought the company in the late 1960s. This part of the Fort Dodge Line has been abandoned but the right of way is still visible on Google Maps photo. Unfortunately there is no trace of the bridge left.

Pyrmont Bridge is one of the world's oldest surviving electrically operated swing bridges, and it was one of the largest of its type when it was built. The bridge uses an electric motor to open and close, allowing boats to pass through.
I took this photo when the bridge was open to allow boats to pass, while at the same time a monorail train passed above the opening. The monorail has since been closed and the line demolished. As such, this is a photo of record.

This is the south end of the track they operate. It was once part of C&Os Cincinnati to Chicago main line.
The Clink was a prison in Southwark, England, which operated from the 12th century until 1780. The prison served the Liberty of the Clink, a local manor area owned by the Bishop of Winchester rather than by the reigning monarch. As the Liberty owner, the Bishop kept all revenues from the Clink Liberty, and could put people in prison for failing to make their payments. As the Bishop, he could also imprison heretics. The Clink prison was situated next to the Bishop's London-area residence of Winchester Palace. The Clink was possibly the oldest men's prison and probably the oldest women's prison in England.
It is uncertain whether the name of the prison derived from, or was bestowed on, the Liberty that it served. The origins of the name "The Clink" are possibly onomatopoeic, deriving from the sound of striking metal as the prison doors were bolted, or the rattling of the chains the prisoners wore.
The name has become slang as a generic term for prison or a jail cell.
