Sallustius Crispus, Gaius: Opera. [Venice]: Filippo di Pietro, 22 June 1478. Front cover of binding: 18th-century mottled calf. Sp Coll Hunterian Bf.3.16.
Here's the Opera building. It really is quite impressive, and even more so in real life, where it's considerably less blurry.
Now -these- are opera clothes! Our Gr. 3 teacher, Marie Baker, ready for a morning school trip to the new Toronto opera hall.
I love the grand staircase of the Opera Garnier in Paris. Especially the big statues representing tragedy and comedy.

The Bardavon 1869 Opera House, in downtown of Poughkeepsie, New York is the oldest continuously-operating theater in New York State. Built in 1869, it served as a venue for various performing arts, community meetings, and celebrations until 1923; it largely resumed this heritage by becoming a general performing-arts facility in 1976. In the interlude period from 1923 to 1975, it served as a cinema, as well as a location for live performances, especially vaudeville, during those particular years. When the Opera House Opened it was named the Collingwood Opera House after its owner and operator James Collingwood, the theater featured an uncommon two-stage dome. Between 1869 and 1921, many notable figures of the day graced the Bardavon's stage, including Sarah Bernhardt and John Barrymore. The beautiful Opera House continues sharing venues from many playwrights, performers, retro/classic films, musicians and many more valuable talents. Take notice of all of the elaborate decor and dramatic scale of the architectural design. The Bardavon is more that and Opera House it is the doorway to history and extraordinary talent.
