All pose bright red

And witheringly enticing.

Be still, oh shivering recently

Unemployed fingers.

Money can not escape

The wallet if there was none

There to begin with.

It will be very interesting to see what stands the test of time. I am enjoying this approach to image making. Even as it differs from images actually made during the period of the war.

The complex layers of false stress and age give my eye rich detail to see. It also gives my brain something to think about. Could this really have been? How do I like the colors? How might I process these differently next time? Where might artistic considerations lead me in the future?

In celebration of Valentines Day a local street artist dressed up a few utility poles. These angels appeared to fly in the cold winter breeze. They bring glad tidings of something I fail to understand. Benediction for something I'm not sure I'm even involved in.

Here is the second part of a little test that I'm running with everyone. These are the tone-mapped versions of the "straight" photos I just posted a little while ago.

I will post these new images to the same groups that I posted the first batch. Then I will watch to see the number of views. This may give me feedback as to how people respond to images.

Thanks for participating in my little experiment.

The light was dim. The IS was turned off. The camera was handheld. Still, this isn't 1/2 bad. I'll have to try more of this when I get the chance.

As the last portal into the Multiverse sealed shut I began a search for other passages between time and space.

Not so distant from the first openings that revealed Steampunk, Tribal, and the related Ages I recently uncovered yet another series of gaps in the Multiverse.

What is strange about these portals (there in all) is that the information streaming across them appear to be closely related to an Age of Avian influence. The images are stressed and warped, just like the Steampunk and Tribal work. Yet, even as exciting as these are, it is unclear just what purpose the image have on the other side of the gap.

Continuing with a series of store window images, I found a new set of models to photograph down toward a different light rail station than I usually board at. You can really get a sense of how different stores like to sell to different buyers.

Beyond this cactus is a drop.

Watch your step.

These looked like excerpts from a horror film. I really like the way T-Rex is lunching on My Little Pony. And the way that the Alien is just sitting there, rather beat up looking.

Just dont see enough of these creatures during the winter months here in the Phoenix area, today there were many along the Apache Trail.

Sadly the only shot I have of this one in focus is with it back turned.

If this were any blurrier it would be fit for a bigfoot sighting.

Or the dreaded mexican staring frog.

Sitting in the passenger seat you dont always have to have the driver slow down or stop for "the shot".

My brother stopped to talk with this chap about his business of selling biofuels. Ignoring for a moment the riots taking place elsewhere in the world over rising food prices, this is a pretty neat idea. My brother is a fire fighter in Napa. Several fire fighters under his command also drive bio-fueled Mercedes.

This image was processed from a stack of three images (+/-2EV, 0EV), put through Qtpfsgui, and then further processed using the GIMP. I have left the Qtpfsgui parameters in place, but please remember; these were just the starting place and the Gimp further modified the original source images.

Well... for better or worse... here are my "final" results from working with these rather interesting squash.

I started with one to three exposures. I then HDR'd them using Qtpfsgui. Into the Gimp they went for contrast control, saturation enhancements, tinting, then balancing the various layers to get the "desaturated" yet tinted effects I was looking for.

In hind site, I rather like the pure B&W versions. Still, these are very attractive to me as they appear to have taken on an alien life form.

So there you have it. My mind. My process. Squashy results. I hope you enjoyed it.

Accross the road from the "citadel ruins" a group of jackrabbits were doing whatever rabbits do in the grass and shrubs. Sadly this was the only shot i got at least one in focus.

After wandering around the art sale, we headed down the street to see what kind of interesting shopping was to be had. I couldn't pass up this VW.

As I was taking photos, I heard someone walk up behind me a say "That'll be $5." When I turned to face the elderly gent, I smiled. It was his car and he was very proud of it. So we chatted a bit before he and his wife climbed in and motored away.

It was a lovely day.

There she walked

Striding confidently into the vast

Open experience that is this world

All bright and orangy colored

So that she could not be missed

So that she could not be messed with

Her Dior sunglasses worth all of three

Dollars and fifty-eight cents in materials and shipping

Yet costing a minor fortune once

Laid to rest in the glass case, for

All the world to wonder, for all

The world to gawk, for all the

World to worship

After photographing the new mural across the street, I took a very quick moment and grabbed a few images of this really huge Cadillac that we'd parked in front of.

For this I varied the tone-mapping parameters and played with the 3 image layer alignment from handheld AEB. I think this will work.

Now... off to Paris and London sometime soon... handheld DHR will be possible... just need to figure out if the 40D needs to go... or if a new G9 would be more appropriate (ie: better hidden from the throngs and masses of humanity)...

strange recurring character in chrismas cribs

I ride the light rail system by this building 5 days a week. Each time I swear I'll take a photo of it. Well, yesterday was the day. Finally!

I can't tell you how much I like this treatment of the scene. The building and this sign all have a "crusty" feel about them. This technique only serves to enhance the feeling I have.

In the mornings I pass by store windows on my way to the light rail stop. When the seasons change I watch to see what kind of Consumer Pavlovian Response items are put out for display.

I am using these images as a way to test hand held automatic exposure bracketing. It's a technique I would like to deploy when traveling to Europe and Asia.

I get a lot of joy out of walking around and watching to see what shows up. New perspectives. Old ideas re-worked. Unexpected situations. Interesting compositions.

I love it all!

I visited the Roundhouse yesterday. I took the Canon 40D, three lenses, and a huge tripod. I wanted to begin working with high dynamic range images of the kind found in some of the HDR pools here on Flickr.

Yet another image from Hovenweep.

I was asked to create a few more images of the troupe who couldn't make the original photoshoot. There were some pretty exciting things to come from this very very fast "line 'um up and shoot 'um" session. It's good to have a technique and style, because if I'd stopped to think about what I was doing, everything would have been lost.

As we wandered down an ally, we discovered it opened up into a nice courtyard. Italian families have worked the farms for over a century. So it came as no surprise to find what felt to me to be a very Italian fountain located in the middle of the quaint plaza.

Every morning up in Mesa Verde visitors kill what seems to be hundreds of squirrels and rabbits that seem to dart out in front of you while youre driving.

Easy enough to avoid hitting if youre not speeding or just give half a rats ass but it would seem most people speed and dont really give a rats ass. Such apathy keeps the crows fat and happy. On this morning we saw a crow fly away with a rabbits head in beak. Unfortunately no shot could be made of that. I was driving at the time.
