Opening of "Ständige Vertretung" | 30 Apr 2017 | 14:00

In light of a growing shortage of space for independent cultural productions, Ständige Vertretung (meaning permanent representation) establishes a sculptural project space for creators from Berlin.

In consecutive two-monthly residencies over the upcoming two years, cultural practitioners are invited to imagine, propose and develop their own projects, conferences, exhibitions or publications along the lines of ZK/U’s conceptual framework.

Ständige Vertretung is a project by the Center for Art and Urbanistics (ZK/U). Its architectural principle was developed by ConstructLab, Refunc and StudioC. It will be made accessible as Open Source documentation.

Construction work: 03 - 30 of April 2017

SPANISH EXPERIMENTAL FILM ARRIVES IN CHINA

The exhibition –FROM EXPERIMENTAL FILM TO THE AUDIOVISUAL VANGUARDS– will be on show from June 2nd to July 31st 2011 at the Miguel de Cervantes Library, and gathers some pieces considered most outstanding in Spanish experimental film, as well as film projects that have triumphed at an international level.

Within this daring series, for the first time ever in Asia, the essential Un perro andaluz (1929) –the pinnacle piece of world experimental cinema, signed by two geniuses that are Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí, and known for being a key piece in the history of film –will be screened.

Aside from this defining piece of surrealism and other contemporary works, also being presented for the first time in this Asian country are the works of some ineludible authors, such as the pioneer film maker and inventor Val del Omar, whom the Museum Reina Sofia in Madrid just dedicated a broad retrospect on him; José Antonio Sistiaga, author of a beautifully hypnotizing film strip; or Iván Zulueta, key figure of the movida madrileña, idol and reference to directors like Pedro Almodovar. All of them are included in the series Del éxtasis al arrebato, which has been presented in cities like London (Tate Modern), Paris (Jeu de Paume), or New York (Anthology Film Archives).

The youngest authors and the most innovative proposals from this XXI century are exhibited in the series Videonautas, where the flirtation between video art and the most aesthetic fiction manifests, breaking the norm and redefining the lines between genres. The series on Spanish video-creation Videonautas starts its International march in Shanghai, and will be traveling later to diverse cities around the world like Moscow or Porto Alegre. The exhibition Del Cine Experimental a la Vanguardia Audiovisual finishes with a Bang with elmur.net, a proposal where the latest innovations in online creations are exhibited. The project gathers a collective body of work created solely through an intercultural dialogue that dissolves the traditional spectator/screen communication.

Almost a century’s work in Spanish experimental film takes shape in a retrospect that rediscovers its history and definitively locates it as one of the world’s reference in the investigation of aesthetics and audiovisual.

An anthology impossible to repeat and ineludible that encompasses a total of 110 pieces, most of which unedited, and more than a hundred authors united by diverse specialized curators in programs with specific themes.

The selection was created with the intention of divulging a piece of work that could set fire to the audiences’ eyes, in many cases now rediscovered in their own country, and to contextualize this grand creative corpus on the history of Spanish film and of contemporary creations.

This exhibition and its screenings will coincide with the Shanghai International Film Festival. Those attending, who are initially attracted by the fame of Un perro andaluz, will take home a surprise better than one imagined.

About the Artists:

The Children’s Advocacy Program of Museo Pambata Foundation, Inc., or better known as CAP has been part of the foundation since 2002. The program selects 15 children, who are between the ages of 7 – 12 and are residents of Manila, and trains them to be child advocates of the foundation through various workshops and learning sessions done in and out of the museum.

This year, the children underwent various art workshops, from visual arts, theater, to music and dance. They were trained in hip-hop and street dancing by professional dancers and musicians from Germany through the Goethe-Institut, Alliance Francaise and Japan Foundation’s Rap In Tondo project, which has been running for two years now. The children have performed in B-Side, The Collective along with other children and professional dancers from Manila for the Rap In Tondo 2 culminating activity.

They also recently went through a series of dance workshops on the South African Gumboot Dance with Ms. Nyko Maca.

Nykó Macá. Distilling a deep passion for performance, the written, spoken and sung word, movement and sport, art and life, Nykó draws upon her United World College experience to bring the globe home to the Philippines. Having studied in McGill University she returned to Manila to pursue a career in the performing arts. As a multi-lingual vocalist she and her Brasil-inspired band GAFiEiRA are a soul, samba, and all-around funk movement. As Macaca, she credits the martial arts of Capoeira and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu with the orientation and way of living that sets her free to pursue her dream, as she dreams for all to do the same. She has performed in various venues around the country and abroad, and works to bring the Philippines to the world stage: A filipina who represented the country in foreign lands and aspires to represent the world here at home, this is Nykó Macá.

Reverb

September 12, 2011 – April 3, 2012

Reverb takes off from notions having to do with resonance, registration, and audible impressions. It brings together sound-based work from artists such as Eric Ambata, Kawayan de Guia, Tad Ermitaño, IC Jaucian, Diokno Pasilan, Ronald Tomas, the collaborative, E.X.I.S.T. In responding to Lopez Museum’s open call for sound-based proposals last year, these artists will be showing an amalgam of old and new works drawn up from the ambient and self-produced, the installative and site-specific, the found and the overlooked, alongside objects from the museum collection that invoke hearing and an overall sharpening of the experiential aspect of encountering art.
