A 9°F (-13°C) morning at the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge had this coyote up looking for breakfast.

This panorama of the Saint Paul skyline stretching from the Cathedral to the Wabasha Bridge, including the Capitol building and the downtown skyscrapers, was taken shortly after sunset from the Smith Avenue High Bridge.

One of the staples of the Minnesota State Fair, a bucket of warm cookies from Sweet Marthas.

Eden Prairie Heritage Site sign at the abandoned Lookout Park Wayside on Shakopee Hill across from Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. The wayside was built in 1938 during the New Deal era by the National Youth Administration (NYA) in cooperation with the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT).

The five acre site was designed in the National Park rustic style to enhance and blend in with its natural surroundings. It consisted of a concourse made of local stone including a historical marker. There also was a picnic area that had picnic tables and fireplaces.

It was a popular rest stop on old US Highway 212 (later US 169 and 212) for many years, offering tourists and locals alike awe-inspiring views up and down the Minnesota River Valley.

MNDOT closed the wayside in the 1970's and sold it to the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) in 1977. The MAC has had it ever since, keeping the wrecking ball away but allowing it to crumble and decay and fall victim to vandals for some 40 years now.

The site was nominated for the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, but apparently didn't make the register. The city of Eden Prairie has it as one of their Heritage Sites and there has been interest in creating a park out of it, but the MAC reportedly says that the site's location in relation to Flying Cloud Airport is a safety hazard.

From The Ditch Ducks Facebook page:

The entire thing started with a stick in the pond/ditch on Highway 65 between mile marker 101 and 102, that looks like a turtle. Every time we go past Joanne would say, "Look a Turtle!" I told her I will put a big yellow rubber ducky out there so she knows it's a stick and it all just took off from there.

The 3rd Avenue bridge leads out of downtown and into the entertainment district known as St. Anthony Main on the north side of the Mississippi River.

The Lowry Bridge lit in turquoise on April 30th to celebrate the City of Minneapolis 30 Days of Biking.

The historic Enger Tower graces the hillside above Duluth and was lit in striking blue against the fading orange of a late December sunset.

The weather was cloudy/gloomy all day Thursday and according to my weather app the forecast wasn't looking good for Friday morning either. The app showed it was going to stay cloudy until 1pm Friday and I really wanted to capture sunrise photos from Oberg Mountain. We woke up early Friday morning and decided to hike Oberg anyways, it's a fun hike with great views so why not! The sunrise we saw was unlike anything else we'd seen. I'll let the photo speak for itself!

Eagle Mountain is the highest point in Minnesota. The hike to the summit is about 3.5 miles long. Whale Lake provides a nice pit stop at the 2.5 mile mark -- just before the trail turns vertical.

The reflection of the Smith Avenue high bridge across the Mississippi river neatly frames the Cathedral of Saint Paul and the downtown skyline.
