...the shit really started to hit the fan.
Now one year later we are far from clean again.

mom with her twins :)
summer 2009 - June!
sanibel island
can't wait to be together again!
will try to get some decent photos together!!!
The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sun-burned hands I used to hold
Since you went away the days grow long
And soon I'll hear old winter's song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall

" Welcome to my home too" she said, looking in from her balcony to where I was sitting talking to another older lady who was going to change into her traditional dress for the festival and had hang up her skirt on the wall and laid out her jacket on the bench and was fixing her hair. Later she asked me back to look at the embroidered shoes she had just finished working on.Taken in Langde mountain village among the Miao people of Guizhou province.

In her fantastic interview over at this joy+ride, Tara talked about her afternoon iced coffee with maple syrup and milk.
I made some this afternoon and it was heavenly. I sat in this chair and rocked and sipped while the baby napped and thought just a little about the last ten years.
Why did I never think of this before, Tara? It's a whole new depth of deliciousness.
Today was quite a special day.
First of all it was our first day of being reunited with Henry who was very happy to welcome us, then we noticed, after looking through our event calendar that it was not only a day of reunion but even better, it was Henry’s birthday!
One year ago to the day it was when Pip and I discovered a strange looking furry thing between the sheets, which turned out to be, after some careful probing, our beloved koala bear.
And we had quite some adventures since...
So while celebrating with a quickly baked eucalyptus pie, Pip and I thought what better time than to open the one christmas present we hadn’t, due to some lazy postmen, opened yet:
Our Christmas present from the Land of the Bed!
And what a package full of surprises it was! Filled with yummy chocolaty treasures, a light saber!, a historical documentary which surely everyone should see and saving the most treasured object for last... Mr Fox's straw hat! Probably the most splendid hat ever made!
We were all so excited that we took pictures of all of us wearing it because it really is that brilliant.
So many thanks from all of us to the wonderful members and masters of the Land of the Bed.
And Happy Birthday Little Henry :-)
What a day :-)
In our perfect present tense
Through our wide rose tinted lens
When the words have all been spent
Will we still have that lens
Through the window see that place
Like the fondest sweet embrace
For a moment face to face
In the sweetest embrace

...Holly and I treated ourselves to a "fish spa". The (flimsy) premise is that these tiny fish eat the dead skin cells off your feet and the enzyme in their mouths softens your skin even more. We were pretty sure it was a trick, because your feet feel different anyway whenever you put your feet in water for half an hour. But it was funny to try.

Tu me manques tellement mon Loulou.
One year already, looks like eternity. I miss you so much my Sweetie ... I remember all the kindness in your eyes, you loved hiking in the mountains and playing in the snow. Perhaps you were also a little jealous of the cat ...
"One of the things Ken Quigley misses most about his daughter is her dancing.
”I don't even know where to begin,” he said about his favorite memories of his daughter Nicole Lynn Quigley. “We miss her so much ... . We miss watching her dance. Dancing was her thing. She danced all over the house.” (Times-Standard, Oct. 6, 2009)
Nicole was a beautiful 9-year-old ballet, jazz and tap dancer who died in a tragic car accident a year ago today when a car allegedly street racing slammed into her mother Debbie's Tahoe at 100mph, causing it to fly down an embankment, through a telephone pole and into a fence. Nicole's twin sister, Ashley, survived.
I'll never forget the feeling in my gut when we got the fax of the CHP report in the newsroom that night. Never in my wildest dreams would I think I would know the family.
Debbie and I worked together closely when I attended Humboldt. Her girls were her life. I can't imagine how she's managed to get through this past year. Her strength is deeply inspiring.
The candlelight vigil for Nicole ended a bit ago in Humboldt. While I'm here in Seattle, my heart and spirit was there with them.
The quote above is from Lee Ann Womack's song, I Hope You Dance, which Nicole's dance troop performed to at her service. The courage of those girls to get up - I'm not sure I could have done it.
But the show must go on - and it's what Nicole would have wanted. She would have kept dancing.
Every Oct. 6 I'll remember her. I'll smile. And cry. But most importantly, I'll dance.
"I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat
But always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed
I hope you still feel small
When you stand by the ocean
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens
Promise me you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance..."
