I contacted Scott at Bricktracks , And I turned all of there current Track parts into stud.io files.
I also made plans / instructions on how to ballast , Based on my ideas & Tony Sava ideas. ( more Pictures soon )

I love sunpillars. I actually thought the sun was in the bottom part of the picture until I watched for a short time and saw the real sun drop below the clouds and reveal itself for a short time before setting. So the sun is actually behind the dark cloud is going straight across the horizon. I love these sun phenomena.

I carry this small map in my camera bag for those times when we are asked where we have been, or a tourist asks where a place is... It was useful in the UK and Europe a few times..
It lacks a little detail in the crowded SW and SE, or Tasi, where most roads have been crossed over during our lifetime. Did many trips getting to caving and bushwalking places in the sixties, before I took the Beetle to WA on a couple of trips and met Mary.

From Last Week ā How to resize a map.
The problem with photographing a flat map is that unless you have some sort of camera mounting system that allows you to exactly centre the camera over the map, you will always get a slightly distorted photograph. At least with a kit zoom lens...
Larger libraries have a drum scanner that can be used to scan large items like maps.
Put the map flat on the floor. Put a mirror in the centre of the map. Mount the camera above. Position the map/camera till the reflected camera lens image is centre of the viewfinder. (assuming a through the lens viewfinder here)
Remove mirror, refocus and expose. Everything should be square.
Without a special copy lens, you may get some aberration in the corners, but it should be usable. Dave
In response to Richardās query I thought you may be interested in what I have done / do. I found on the net a simple map outline which I was able to download and calibrated for use in Oziexplorer. The map has no features on it just the state borders and names. When travelling I record a track file with my GPS which I display on the map with oziexplorer and save as a jpeg file. I can resize or trim as necessary with my favourite graphic editor. Ian

Yes, I have a laminated map of Australia (750 x 625) that I have marked our treks on.
It is a great reminder of wonderful episodes and useful to display our travels to friends.
I agree that scanning something this size would be a problem, but photography can be quite easy with certain precautions.
So long as the lens (camera or phone) will permit taking the photo from at least 2 metres away then there is no problem with parallax effecting geometry or focus.
What is difficult is avoiding hi-light reflections from the laminated map. Any hi-light in view of the map will produce flare on the image. And flash is an absolute no-no.
For the attached images I mounted the map with Blu-Tack on a wall in a hallway with no windows in view of the map or camera. The diffused light came through a doorway from an adjacent room.
An alternative is to expose outside on an overcast day, but even then the map should be shielded from āseeingā the sky or bright reflections.
If taking hand-held then maybe push the ISO up a bit to allow shorter exposure time to overcome camera-shake. The upper photo was taken on a Sony RX10 on āAutoā and on a tripod. The lower on a Samsung Galaxy J3 phone at ISO 800, hand-held. Allan and Roz www.westprint.com.au newsletter June 2019
