Well it's now Autumn - although you would not know that today in Sydney where, in the Hills District, it is nearly 40 degrees celsius. The hottest day in two years. Wonderful.
Global warming - it has to be!
But anyway, it's time to order your bulbs from the nurseries in Victoria or Tasmania, or go to Bunnings!!
This is a variegated pastel pink & white 'Romantica' ranunculus
aka 'Ranunculus asiaticus'
Dating back to medieval times, this variety of ranunculus derives from gardens in countries around the Mediterranean Sea. But in 2023 it is now available through most nurseries that ship the bulbs to you in Autumn (which, of-course, is right now!)
See this very ranunculus here:

This photo is looking west from Counts Point which is part of the Heavitree Range approximately 85 kms into our walk. We spent the day walking the ridge line before descending the range to camp overnight. At this time, a lot of the Trail was still to be marked and developed so it was at times an interesting experience indeed.
Photos in OneDrive is throwing up some memories which has me looking back at photos from a bushwalk I organised for the Perth Bushwalkers Club of the Larapinta Trail in 2005. The Trail is 223 km walking trail in the West McDonnell National Park (Tjoritja) in the Northern Territory.
The camera used was a Canon IXUS 500.

Every day my OneDrive account reminds me of photos taken on this day in years past. This one popped up today. I was reminded of just how HIGH Jasper could jump back in the day. Always giving 100%. This was 2013. He weighed 50 pounds (23 kg) back then and he weighs 50 pounds (23kg) today. But somehow he looked a bit more svelte back then. A fun look back at our furry athlete

I have got in to the habit of checking my OneDrive store on a daily basis, where I am served an "On this Day" photo feed from our digital archives.
It seems 22 Jan 2005 was a Saturday. I remember going with Carolin and the boys to Wymondham for a walk near the river, followed by coffee and breakfast. Joshua was just less than a year old and asleep in the push chair, Samuel was 2 1/2. It was a pleasant, sunny winter's day with some frost lingering. Samuel and I were equally delighted to see 50019 meander over the crossing, on a non-running day, at Wymondham Abbey, before coming to a stop while a crew got down to do some work or other trackside. I have another picture of Samuel running towards me from the train, full of excitement.
After enjoying the photo series in OneDrive, I decided to see if my somewhat more advanced editing skills, as compared to nineteen years ago, could achieve anything with it in Lightroom. I am moderately satisfied with this version, where I have adjusted the colour tone slightly and the levels across highlights, shadows and exposure. I have started to make more use of Lightroom's Texture features too.
At this time, I was using a Fujifilm S602 zoom. It was more digicam than DSLR and shot JPEG, so although I had archived this as a DNG file originally, the editing flexibility is minimal. Hence, almost nothing could be done about the overexposed sky without introducing a significant amount of artefact.
In our time living in Norfolk, we took a number of trips on the Mid-Norfolk, although only when they ran steam hauled services. It is a lovely heritage railway that seems to have come out of the other side of COVID reasonably well, as far as I can deduce online.

I remember back in the day... when I was shooting in Brighton, but editing later.
The lens distorted the alignment of the piers in this image, but a slight bit of potatoshop distort, touch of levels and curve - Hey presto and image fit for my Flickr stream.

Today's call to action: Flickr friends, both following, met and unmet not yet following. I have a problem in that my favourite Flickr uploader PhotoExplorer from @ipointSoftware has stopped working. Please, using comments, could you recommend an alternative Flickr upload tool that integrates with @onedrive as Flickr's own iOS app is useless.

Which of the two tank styles look best? It should really be the diameter of a 1x1 quarter round tile, but there's no other pieces to complement this. Right hand tanks are a quick change over, so not really built correctly, for now.
Also, I lost all of my files of my laptop when it suddenly died. I had a good chunk of files on OneDrive, but none of my Lego train files. So I spent some time rebuilding the 14xx, Pannier, 94xx, and 15xx from the ground up. They were all done, with a few quick changes needing to be done. 15xx will be shown soon, once the tank style is chosen. I do like that I had to rebuild them as they are now stronger with less pieces, with some more added details.
Also also, this photo realistic mode is not bad at all.

A timeline of the myriad versions of my Self-MOC -- including a preview of her latest iteration. ;)
It's missing Versions 2-5 because I never kept proper documentation, but fortunately I did keep track of later versions.
On a side note, I found a bunch of old MOCs on my OneDrive that I thought I'd lost forever, so I'm really happy about that. Perhaps one day they'll make their way to Flickr!

This is one of the shots, which won't upload to OneDrive for one key reason. GameDVR had a feature built into it, which stopped people sharing FM6 shots on the feed before the 15th & 18th of September.
And instead of being coded in such a way, which allow any shots taken before the 15th or 18th to be shared once FM6 was released officially.
Turn 10 and Microsoft took the quick and simple approach.

Had lots of fun shunting these 3 vehicles about today, as me, Bob Stanger and Peter Brown were sorting these vehicles for various upcoming events. RTL554 received some new blinds (as seen) for Theydon Bois event and the RF got a wash at Reading Buses.
RTL554 will be providing a feeder service to Theydon Bois event, timings are available here;

Thanks again to Bob & Peter today for the help and great day, plus Reading Buses for allowing us to get the RF cleaned there.
This was the "core group",, some had already gone home and some were yet to arrive, it was a great day.

Saw these three really cool Hot Wheels cars at Rick's Vintage Shop and Antique Market in Hernando a month ago and couldn't resist taking a photo to share on flickr one day :) Rick's is located in the old Love's Sports Café beside the Goodwill Bargain Barn, which you guys probably know better as the Home Appliance Store of Hernando-turned-temporary Kroger Hiring Center: the space's first permanent tenant in years, open as of early this year. As far as the merchandise goes, I really like this store; there's a whole lot of cool retail-related items! (On our most recent visit, we even saw one of the vendors had picked up and was offering for sale a painting – not retail related, mind you! – that we had donated to Goodwill just weeks before, which means they definitely have good taste ;P …and that we could've made a good chunk of change if we had had the means of selling it ourselves, haha!) For overall presentation and customer service, however, I prefer Commerce Street Market.
Anyway, that's not the point of this post! I'm uploading this to let you know that I've put up my first blog post of the summer, a table summarizing the Albertsons stores in Mississippi which was compiled by Albertsons Florida Blog. Please feel free to check it out here!
Lastly... if any of you are familiar with Blogger, and know how to embed a table or PDF, please leave a comment below to help me out! I tried posting the table to the blog first as HTML code, but the information stretched beyond the template formatting I've got in place. Then I attempted embedding it as a PDF, which I ultimately got to work out via OneDrive... until I realized that it would let everyone see my real name, which I don't want! I thought about just editing my name on OneDrive, but found that silly to do just for the sake of my blog. So at the very least, let me know if you can read the table; I want it to be clear and easy enough to understand, especially for the effort AFB (and I) put into it...
Oh, and yes, I did buy the Albertsons truck in the middle XD Stick around for another Albertsons-related photoset to kick off my summer 2017 uploads this weekend...!

SET 6 – Goodman/Getwell Kroger, Post-Remodel
So this is the first official set of descriptions coming to you from my new laptop… I wish I could say I like it more than I do, haha! The laptop itself seems perfectly fine and nice for the most part – it’s a Dell – but it’s dang Windows 11 that’s killing me. Windows 10 was *eons* better, and besides the obvious visual/graphical change of having to look at how Apple-y Windows 11 has become, it’s also had some quite annoying issues that have made me considerably upset. Most notably was how OneDrive was apparently automatically set to sync all files on the computer, such that when it started doing so after I spent all day transferring all my files over, my free measly amount of OneDrive storage was immediately subsumed and there was no way to disable the syncing once it was in progress, nor was there a way to revert my OneDrive to how it was before. Ultimately I ended up having to wipe my OneDrive totally clean and delete everything on there (hopefully nothing was important – guess I won’t be needing a resume again, lol)… which also deleted everything I had transferred onto the computer, making me start all over again with that process. Ugh!! Outrageously frustrating. Now, thankfully, I think I have it to where everything is saving only to my local drive on the laptop, which is exactly what I want. But I’m also annoyed that my external mouse seems to be lagging; sometimes it takes two or three left clicks for one of them to actually, finally go through. This same problem doesn’t appear to be happening if I use the laptop’s trackpad, but I like to use an external USB mouse for a reason… from what I’ve found online, it looks like others have been having this problem, too (and I know it’s not the mouse, because I’ve been using the same one for probably over a decade now). All of it’s just pretty frustrating and makes me wish Windows 10 was still a thing on new computers. 11 seems like a huge downgrade in a number of ways.
Anyway… you didn’t come here to hear me rant, you came here for photos, haha. So, let’s take a look at a few of those. This set brings us back to the Goodman/Getwell Kroger in Southaven, where we are looking at a few of the aisles towards the left-hand wall of the store in these first few pics. Many of these aisles represent subdepartments that are big enough to obtain their own secondary department signs, such as the Urban Mix-style “PET” sign which is shown here.
(c) 2023 Retail Retell
These places are public so these photos are too, but just as I tell where they came from, I'd appreciate if you'd say who :)
Installed Open Suse Linux on the laptop I am using now in one day with all functions except access to my network drives. That will come later. Connected Canon camera and uploaded photos. Used Gimp to modify image. Saved to Flickr via Firefox.
All without any real problem.
Tried to upgrade this same laptop to Windows 10 from Windows 8.1. Had so many errors that I found the situation almost unbelievable. I almost ran out of storage space on my Samsung phone with images of the problems. Frozen applications, all icons on the desktop disappearing, Internet disconnections, cannot connect to group policy client, File Manager taking an absolute age to do anything and so on and so on. It appears to me that if you have a laptop much more than a year old you will have problems.
I also had a large number of problems with upgrading a desktop to Windows 10. Would not write iso files to a dvd amongst other problems. It also got stuck in a loop saying something like Windows has encountered an error, the system will be restarted for you. It only started when I switched the power off to the desktop and switched it back on again.
In case you ask were there any viruses, malware, system issues. No, no way. two well known virus packages reported nothing, chkdsk was used to check the disks, scannow was used to check the system and so on and so on. I also never switch off a machine if I know an upgrade is in process. Updates seem to be at the heart of some of my problems. I know about and have edited the GPSvcGroup corruption to the registry and have solved some problems doing this. There were a lot of other problems that were solved by other methods.
I ask myself how there is such a difference between the systems. I have used Windows since the very first version. Then you had to reboot occasionally because of a memory addressing problem, but at least that was normally a reliable recovery method. You can't even do that now.
Microsoft is in trouble as far as Windows 10 is concerned. They should have reduced the complexity of the operating systems and separated tablet from desktop, and business requirements from domestic. They are carrying so much baggage from previous systems and hardware that it is becoming almost impossible to support Windows.
I have been in IT since 1963 and I understand the problems with staff and expectations that may also be a crippling problem that Microsoft has to deal with. But you don't get rid of all your experienced staff even though they might not be as fast as the new young IT staff. You might need some of their knowledge when making changes to legacy type code.
Note added 18/11/2015. Found I could not use the Internet. I shutdown Windows 10 and tried to Reboot. On Rebooting the login screen came up, I input the password, the pc started the boot process and then froze for more than 15 minutes. Had to do a hard shutdown and reboot in the end. The message came up saying it could not connect to Onedrive. I don't want Onedrive, and am incredibly angry wasting more time with Windows 10. Have stopped Onedrive loading now but will go to Apple soon. What a terrible operating system Windows 10 is now.
Just had several other problems, probably caused by an update. Randomly, Windows explorer is coming up with the message. File access has timed out when attempting to open a .jpeg file in the Photo app.
I also had Windows Explorer freeze when trying to get to a folder on my C drive. Shut down and re-started the machine. Message indicates the system was trying to carry out updates. Why does it not tell you instead of freezing.
This is totally ridiculous. I now cannot access my Synology drives after an update. Windows 10 is also saying 'cannot connect to group policy client'. Seen this before. why has it appeared again after a few months. This fault I suspect is due to Microsoft falling foul of the user security options available under previous versions of Windows not being available under Windows 10 update. When is Windows ever going to be reliable?
Windows 10 is still a bloody mess. Almost every time a Windows update is applied there is another problem. 20/03/2016. Just switched my desktop computer on and found Start button not working, Cortana not working, time not appearing, system errors occurring with Color Munki. Ran sfc / scannow and it found nothing. I am sure there are other problems. Windows must be re-built and simplified to suit the modern hardware environment.
Started using a windows 10 laptop again early June 2016. Found the DVD writer/reader had disappeared. In the end I disabled, shutdown, rebooted, re-enabled the drive and everything was o.k.with the drive. While fixing the drive, probably a registry setting that Windows could not process, I noticed there was a windows update download going on. Too late, I was trying to fix the DVD and set in motion a shutdown. Low and behold after the DVD was fixed the message 'Could not connect to group policy client occurred again.' Fixed Windows update problem as well, message
Could not connect has disappeared at last, getting more confident about Windows 10 now.
Still won't buy an Apple machine when you realise that a £20 extra cost for a 256gb ssd over a 128 gb ssd to buy and upgrade yourself on a pc means a £200 extra cost on the Apple laptop.
Windows 10 (Th2 November Update) is a stubborn bastard, but can be fooled ;-)
