Guilty as charged!

Right in front of my nose, huge buildings, occupied by hundreds of families.

Downtown San Paulo, Brazil.

Few blocks from the City Hall, the Stock Exchange, the Central Bank among so many other fundamental, worthy and basic institutions.

In just one of the buildings, 475 families occupies 27 unfinished floors.

Kids play and run.

Clotheslines on the outside of the building, without any protection from falling down and in front of the entire city.

Windows, with breathtaking views, of one of the biggest and most populated cities on the Planet, made of compensated wood or sticks, even at the 27th floor.

People that use strength and organization to impose their reality, to a society that doesn’t care to listen.

Guilty as charged!

The center of Athens. Even after eight years of austerity measures, most Greeks do not see any prospects in their own country. Since 2010, about 500,000 people have emigrated - most of them young and well educated. In Athens, the rents are extremely high, compared to the rest of the country, so there is a lack of affordable apartments for poorer people. Thus, the number of homeless is rising. With more and more refugees coming off the overcrowded Greek islands, the situation on the streeets of the capital gets more tense.

Gigi Burris' Millinery, East Village, New York City, New York, USA.

On assignment for Changi Class Magazine.

After shooting Loris Diran at his Bowery boutique, Megan, Damian and myself ran a few blocks east to shoot Gigi Burris in her millinery. A millinery, of course, is a place where hats are made. A milliner is an artist that makes hats. I knew neither of these terms before we arrived in New York. Something new, every day...

Anyway, I knew that when we started shooting Gigi I wanted to make some environmental portraits; we've got an old chair, her desk and one of her fantastic hats. Had we been able to lift the gigantic Singer sewing machine out of the corner we would thrown that in, too. For good measure, of course.

I was lucky to have Jahrensy and Damian along for the ride on this NYC adventure. See what they have to say about it.
