Thanks to my friend Greg I was able to get hired on the spot to cover this event minutes before it was supposed to begin.

Djerba, an island off the southeastern coast of Tunisia, is home to one of North Africa's only thriving (albeit small) Jewish communities. Roughly 1200 Jews live there, running Jewish schools, synagogues, and Kosher restaurants. Here, teachers administer exams at an all-girls school started by childhood friends Hanna Sabban and Alit Sabban. They currently occupy three different buildings (one is a residential garage), but they've just purchased a property that they'll turn into a new school for the girls.

Guilty as charged!

Right in front of my nose, huge buildings, occupied by hundreds of families.

Downtown San Paulo, Brazil.

Few blocks from the City Hall, the Stock Exchange, the Central Bank among so many other fundamental, worthy and basic institutions.

In just one of the buildings, 475 families occupies 27 unfinished floors.

Kids play and run.

Clotheslines on the outside of the building, without any protection from falling down and in front of the entire city.

Windows, with breathtaking views, of one of the biggest and most populated cities on the Planet, made of compensated wood or sticks, even at the 27th floor.

People that use strength and organization to impose their reality, to a society that doesn’t care to listen.

Guilty as charged!

The Lake, Central Park, New York City, New York, USA.

I'm changing things up today. I got some new magazine proofs in the mail this week and I thought I'd roll out some NYC while it's still fresh in my mind.

I imagine Central Park is a little more fun in the summer or the spring - when it's not so crazy cold, you know? - but visiting in the winter does have advantages. First, there are fewer people running amok. Fewer panhandlers, too. That's always a good thing. Then there's skating under the night lights of the Manhattan skyline - we'll get to that later. For now, The Lake, the hotels, the ice. Good times.

I shot down to NYC on assignment for a magazine and was lucky to have Jahrensy and Damian along for the ride. NYC seems as familiar as any place I've ever been and bursting at the seems with good times. More to come.
