May the best athlete win,
So Jesse Owens excelled in every test.
A black man shattered the Nazi dream,
Something Hitler found too hard to digest.
Poem: Jan Elemans

In 1936 the olympic games were held in this arena.
Hitler wanted to show the world that German (white) athletes were far beter
then any other race. But...Jesse Owens, a black athlete from the USA,
won 4 gold medals!
This was to much for Hitler so he left the games.

The bridge was meant to celebrate the 1988 Summer Olympics, which were to be held in Seoul. A design contest for the bridge began in 1984, and the design was selected by April 1985.
Construction on the bridge started in November 1985. It opened on November 15, 1989, after the games; it was delayed as part of the foundation collapsed.
On May 29, 2001, a CH-47D helicopter from ROK Army, attempting to lower a sculpture onto the top of the bridge, crashed and fell into the Han River, killing all three on board.

Olympic Monviso.
The winter olympics games are going strong in Pyeongchang, and so far it has been good also for the Italian team! It's easy to recall past editions, especially when Piedmont mountains were the center of the World in 2006. The iconic Monviso seems to fire up the old cauldron.

This is the view of Olympic Village in Vancouver, BC seen from the canoe bridge. It's quite the site lit up at night but I do feel the blue light is a bit overkill. It does look cool from a distance though.

The madness continues with crowds never seen so huge around the downtown of this city.
One can only have a big smile and cheer and sing "Oh Canada" with everyone.
Hockey scenes break out everywhere after Canada beat the Swiss in a shootout lst night.
The weekend promises to be the craziest and most fun time of my life to this point.

The Montreal Olympic Pool was constructed for the 1976 Summer Olympics as part of the Montreal Olympic Park. The Olympic Pool is part of the larger swimming centre, located in the base of the inclined tower. The center has a seating capacity of 3,012 seats.
At the 1976 Olympics, it hosted swimming, diving, water polo, and the swimming part of the modern pentathlon events. It had a capacity of 10,000 seats at the time.
As of 2014, the aquatic complex had extensive renovations to bring the facilities in line with FINA+ ââFĂ©dĂ©ration Internationale de Natationâ standards.

2020.08.26 - The quintessential view of Montreal's Olympic Stadium on a perfectly clear day. Unfortunately still some residue from recent renovations hanging around the north base but it still looks impressive. Not sure if the observation deck is open since Covid-19 hit the city.. I think not, I didn't see the funicular go up the tower's spine at any time and for the most part the park was empty of people..
