Sailing all weekend.... my wife's birthday weekend, in my estimation required the provision of these "Offsets". Happiness all 'round.
This one goes way back. When I was first learning to use Illustrator I took my wife's picture of her grandfather and turned it into a Warhol-like image. Later, I used it as a self-promotion piece for my portfolio as a cover of an art book.

We were invited to be a part of the 2010 Offset Creative Conference. So we teamed up with Dublin based Architects ABGC, built a Hippo and carried out a weekend long experiment on the conference delegates. The exercise was called 'Lost in Translation' and the results are spicy.

Cherry nut-driver handle for a nut driver for which the plastic handle had broken off of years ago and was just rattling around in my toolbox. This is an oval offset turning. Finished with Mahoney's walnut oil and beeswax since this will be bouncing around in a toolbox.
I made five attempts using pine before turning the cherry. The first two attempts looked like hammered dog crap, the third through fifth ones were a bit more respectable. Techniques demonstrated by John Geim and Mel Bryan were crucial to learning how to do this. Cip Mendez also provided a good overview for hammer handles that had some helpful tips as well.
