We thought it might be fun to see just how far up this blind alley we could go. without using snowchains. Eventually we hit a drift of snow so deep, and a part of the road so narrow, that we thought we had better reverse down the hill again.

As we walked into town, five illegal motorcyclists came racing through an estate known locally as “the trees estate” from the tree street names. They crossed into the central, pedestrianised area of the estate on the pavement, then the green, driving past the gate to a day nursery at high speed. At the main road, they turned right, clearly intending to go and tear up the mountainside. None of the bikes had registration plates, so were all being driven illegally on the road, and therefore none of the riders was insured. This is becoming widespread in the area.
