A Beautiful Weekend Along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon.
Enjoyed a beautiful weekend along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway between Baker City and the Hells Canyon Dam, enjoying the wild flowers the first hint of fall in the Wallowa Mountains along the way including a stop at the Halfway Farmers Market, and some time exploring the towns of halfway and Richland, and surrounding century farms.
The Hells Canyon Scenic Byway is a loop that encircles the Wallowa Mountains, intersecting with Interstate 84 at Baker City and La Grande. During the fall the byway is an ideal route for exploring the regions fall foliage and autumn splendor with some great wildlife viewing opportunities along the way.
The byway is a popular destination for group tours and offers visitors a chance to experience small town Americana in small towns like Halfway, as they explore the rugged and spectacular Northeast Oregon landscape along the way.
Hwy 86 between Baker City and the Hells Canyon Dam at the bottom of the canyon is open year round providing visitors access to the deepest river gorge in North America.

It's not hard to see how this vintage kitchen came together on the ground floor of a warehouse that holds vast quantities of vintage clothing, kitsch, magazines and the occasional antique find. If you're the owner, you have oodles of space and an insider's access to the market for old stuff. The fridge led to the stove which led to the pink cabinets which led to the dinette, and so on.

The tulip bowl offers a warm shelter so the insect's flight muscles do not cool off.
Color can do several things. It can offer high contrast markers to guide pollinators to the nectaries or it can differentiate the flower from the background foliage to signal mature flowers with nectar or pollen. Tulips have a delicate, sweet scent attractive to bees and syrphid flies. yet it is easy to land in the open bowl shape.

Lisboa, or Lisbon offered many wonderful sites to see. Here are a few shots from around town. The Belem Tower was a great quick visit. It is amazing to me how much the remnants and signs of the Knights Templar are present around Portugal - the tower is no different. Captured about an hour prior to sundown, this side of the structure is greatly illuminated. The half moon makes an appearance in the sea of blue sky.

A friend called to offer me a spider they recently caught... this small funnel weaver that was living in a corner of their kitchen. It looked somewhat dehydrated judging by its exceedingly thin abdomen. It drank water for a few minutes after a drop on a toothpick was carefully worked between its pedipalps. It reared back at the instant of contact, but then settled down to drink while grasping the end of the toothpick. This trick for presenting water to a spider works well, but after finished drinking they'll sometimes try to scramble up the toothpick and onto your hand.

Similarly and perhaps even odder is that the development known as College Park West is in Seal Beach but access to that Orange County neighborhood is from neighboring Long Beach which is in a different county altogether, Los Angeles County!

It's hard to believe I am now entering my 4th year gardening, after being offered early retirement as an interior gardener of 25 years.
What a proper return from vacation should be like - the first day back on the line and already I manage to catch a classic Lear! Though I had already had the privilege of snapping its brother D-CCCA (www.flickr.com/photos/boran_pivcic/41475148210/in/datepos...), CCCB nevertheless warrants a closer look - if anything for its "uncharacteristic" single ventral fin. Inherited from the original 20 series, this solution increases the aircraft's stability in yaw, something that early Lears had always had trouble with (due to their large tip tanks - a huge mass on a long moment arm - that considerably amplified any disturbance around the vertical axis, and the small vertical stabilizer that could not provide a sufficient righting moment sufficiently quickly).
Ironically, Learjet would get to grips with this issue only on the later model 31 - which lacked tip tanks - using so called "delta fins", twin ventral stabilizers in a V shape that have since become the hallmark of all modern LJs (40/70, 50, 60 & 80).
The success of this solution had soon led a company called Avcon Industries to port them over onto the 35 and offer them as a "third party" option to anybody interested (called the Avcon R/X). The response was so great in fact that even the 35 has since become associated with them - making finding a civilian one in Europe sporting the original variant quite a treat!
Pakistan offered some very fine 76cm gauge steam. One of the lines was Kohat - Thal. In 1983 we took the train for the full journey. There was no first class, only a sleeper car! Four of the five Great Lakes drain into the Niagara River, (Superior, Michigan, Huron and Erie) before emptying into Lake Ontario. These five Great Lakes make up almost one-fifth of the world's fresh water supply.
From here one can see all the three falls namely,American Falls,Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe Falls .

The 508 offers a bus every two hours from the bottom of the lakes at Windermere and Bowness to the top at Penrith.
A surprise allocation on the Penrith side of the operation (the other operated by Kendal) was one of the generic Carlisle City branded E200s a little bit away from it's home turf....
37125 turns into Bowness Pier with a 508 to Penrith via Troutbeck, Patterdale and Sockbridge whilst 13801 loads on a 599 to Grasmere, two brands you wouldn't normally see side by side.
