Brevent Lake is a charming Apline lake above Chamonix, on the other side of the valley from Mont Blanc. The area seems to be big on skiing in winter, but in summer months if offers lots of great hiking trails. In addition, the cafe at the top of the Brevent cable car offers a great view of Mont Blanc.

Shows offered by nature in some occasions, a privilege to contemplate and share with others.

Location: Khao Yai National Park, Pak Chong, Korat, Nakorn Ratchasima (อุทยานแห่งชาติเขาใหญ่, ปากช่อง, โคราช, นครราชสีมา)

It’s a long weekend this week so we spent a day in Khao Yai National Park. I met this group of birdwatchers shooting and filming ‘great hornbills’. Khao Yai, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the oldest and one of the country’s largest parks which is located only a few hours drive from Bangkok or Pathum Thani. This park is home to some 300 or more migrants and residents species of birds. It is a large open grassland in the centre which offer great opportunities for observing birds that frequent the forest edge.

I had a chance to talk to one of the birdwatchers. He showed me the stunning photos taken from his massive telephoto lens which is common for wildlife birdwatchers. I think birdwatching is important as they provide huge amount of data to conservation researchers. Also, it provides an intimate connection between people and our natural environment which will lead to better protection of our wildlife.

The Pitt Wildlife Management Area offers the perfect set of trails for nature lovers and bird watchers as well as those looking for a nice easy walk along the dikes of Pitt Lake.

Starting from the Grant Narrows parking lot, walk east past the boat launch area to the metal gate and continue along the Pitt Lake Dike. A short distance after leaving the parking area, you approach a wooden viewing lookout. Climb the stairs to the top and take in the views of Pitt Lake and the marsh area as well as the nature living throughout the area.

Thank-you for all the overwhelming support and many friendships.

Stay healthy

Triumph TR6 ('73-'74?)

Triumph TR6 History (1969-1976)

Offered as an affordable, six-cylinder sports car, the first Triumph TR6 rolled off the production line in 1968 as a 1969 model. It's intended target was to rival similar sports cars at the time, and although most were designed with sleek, curved lines, the TR6 was squared off at both ends, making it stand out from it's competitors. With just a seven year production span, the TR6 grew to become a true British classic.

The Triumph TR6 was offered as a convertible only, with a factory steel hard top available optionally. Construction was conservative; the body was bolted onto the frame, which featured a front anti-roll bar, rack and pinion steering, and semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension. Disc brakes were fitted at the front with drum brakes at the rear. The iconic look of the TR6 was completed by very distinctive 15-inch wheels and tires.

TR6 Engine Specs

The UK market TR6 had Lucas mechanical fuel-injection (150-horsepower), while the US market TR6 was fitted with a carbureter (104-horsepower). In 1973, the UK fuel-injected version was de-tuned to 125-horsepower through a camshaft change and revised fuel injection metering. These changes made the TR6 engine smoother and more flexible.

The base transmission was a manual 4-speed gearbox. An optional overdrive unit was available, and gave drivers close gearing for aggressive driving, with overdrive available on 2nd, 3rd and top gears on early models.

Acceleration from the 2.5 litre six-cylinder engine was quick; 0-60 mph in just 8.2 seconds. Equally impressive was a top speed of 120 mph.

The Triumph TR6 remained in production for a relatively short period of time, but has became one of the most popular and instantly recognizable cars in the company's stable. Most of the TR6 sales were in the U.S. - of the 94,619 models produced, 86,249 were exported, with just 8,370 sold in the U.K.

The August heat sat heavily on the air, blistering all that lingered in the sun for too long. Even the shade offered little comfort with the relentless heat. Another sweat droplet streamed from her brow down the side of her face as she watched the heat dance across the horizon, time creeping by, minutes feeling like hours. She leaned forward only slightly to scan her surroundings, trying to see further down the canyon, but knowing without seeing that her partner was just as eager for what was to come next.

As she sat, her horse shifted beneath her, his rhythmic tail swatting the only other movement he offered. He was quiet, even though he surely felt the anticipation that his rider was brimming with.

As they waited, the unmistakable sound of hooves against the packed earth started to fill the quiet, her horse’s head lifting in silent confirmation she was in fact hearing it and not imagining things. It wouldn’t be long now. She adjusted her seat, pulling the reins only slightly to communicate his need to be prepared to go when asked, and she could feel him ready himself in response.

---

Pulling the fabric of her mask up across her face she watched from her hiding place as the coach rushed by, the horses thundering by as the dust filled the air around them. The sound of the wooden wheels of the coach and the footfalls of the fast-moving horses had to be one of her favorites, but perhaps because this was always when she heard them best.

As they passed, she squeezed her mount, and he launched himself forward falling into the dusty path of the coach. She dropped the reins, using her legs to guide him as she raised her pistols, firing off the first shot, which proved successful as the horses ahead of her sped into a frantic run.

It was only moments before the shotgun rider had prepared himself, and returned a shot, to which she pulled back only slightly, sending back one of her own as she did her best to keep her horse from staying too straight for too long.

They were almost into position now, well into the canyon, knowing she’d soon hear Millie’s shots joining the symphony. If there was one thing she could count on, it was her being where she said she’d be.

Thank you Tups for always jumping into my shenanigans with me, I am thoroughly enjoying watching these characters develop as their story progresses, and I look forward to many more with you! You can see her version here!

I want to take a moment to remember Andrew Harlan, who I didn't know well, but knew to be a very kind person. I'm glad to have known him and been able to do this image with him. He was very talented and had a unique eye when it came to his SL photography. He will definitely be missed.

Castel Boccale at sunset offers such a romantic view, as always! I've missed the sea so much, and watching this sunset yesterday evening gave me life again. I was able, finally, to shot a long exposure of 30 seconds, even if it was really windy! There's still room for improvements, obviously, but I can say I'm not sorry with the overall result...!

This cavern offers a completely ride-through cave experience on propane-powered Jeep-drawn trams.

Fantastic Caverns was discovered in 1862 by an Ozarks farmer -- or more precisely, by his dog, who crawled through a small entrance in a hillside. It wasn't until five years after its discovery that the first exploration of Fantastic Caverns took place: twelve women from Springfield, answering a newspaper ad seeking explorers, ventured into the cave. Fantastic Caverns is one of more than 7,300 documented caves in Missouri, and more are still being discovered. Missouri is called The Cave State.

The scenery along Lake Superior is some of the best on offer in Canada, the Lake is the world’s biggest in land area at 82,ooo+ square kilometers and third biggest in water volume it is roughly the size of Austria. The Ojibwe the Native people that lived here for millennia named the lake “Gichi-gam” meaning great sea and to most it would have appeared that way, the lake is fed by over 200 rivers and this is one of them called Sand River.

Around 150kms north of Sault Ste. Marie on hwy 17 lies the Pinguisibi river it is the Ojibwa name for the Sand River meaning fine white sand river, it is completely contained in the Lake Superior Provincial Park and offers a great hiking trail with some interesting canoeing if you don’t mind portages. Also located here is the Pinguisibi Trail it is a 6 kilometer hike along the Sand River following the rivers right bank to its source lake or you can just venture as far as I was interested in, the upper falls which you can just see in the distance at the center of the frame.

I took this on Sept 21, 2021 with my D850 and Tamron 24-70 f2.8 G2 Lens at 24mm, 1/50s, f11 ISO 64 processed in LR, PS +Topaz ,and DXO

Janjehli had a lot to offer to nature lovers and admirers of beauty. It had rained the whole day and it was at night that I clicked this shot of a beautiful yellow rose bud with a hint of red on its petals and another totally unopened bud covered in droplets of rain water with a pitch dark background where the buds are looking so well defined and so pretty giving the tiniest detail of the buds and the stem!

The long summer days offer many unique perspectives on the famous Elb valley line, but one must wake up very early and go to sleep late to capture them. In May I made spontaneous three day trip to the Elbetal on the account of a perfect weather forecast and the 125th anniversary festival of the Kirnitzstalbahn tramway. The schedule allowed the near perfect combination of both events, with the early morning and late evening for trains and the day for trams, but it was tiring...the early morning sun lights up the town of Koenigstein as the 06:40 S1 from Dresden rolls into the station behind a class 143. The 143s normally dont work the S1 nowdays but due to a shortage of 146s atleast three sets per day were operating with them on my visit.

"Many who have commented about this photo had a similar interpretation as I did: abstracted, intergalactic soldiers on the march! It also reminded me of the White Stripes' Seven Nation Army. The composition of the architecture and negative space offers a "leap of faith" of sorts to the viewer and thus the openess to our mutual interpretation. Congrats Myxi on being the Admin's pic of the day! What a beautiful ministract!"

On Unst, Shetland’s northernmost island, a striking Viking longhouse and ship replica offer a vivid glimpse into Norse life and legacy.

Unst is believed to be the first landfall of Vikings in the North Atlantic, and today it boasts the highest density of rural Viking sites in the world—over 60 longhouse remains have been identified across the island. The Viking Unst Project, centered in Haroldswick, brings this history to life through two captivating reconstructions: a 9th-century longhouse and the Skidbladner, a replica of the famed Gokstad ship.

The longhouse, built using traditional materials and techniques, stands as a tactile interpretation of Norse domestic architecture. Its turf walls, timber frame, and central hearth evoke the communal warmth and practicality of Viking living. Visitors can explore the interior freely, gaining insight into how families cooked, slept, and gathered in these elongated, multifunctional spaces. The reconstruction draws on archaeological findings from three key Unst sites—Hamar, Underhoull, and Belmont—each revealing layers of Norse settlement from around 1025 to 1220.

Just steps away, the Skidbladner rests beside Harold’s Wick, its sleek silhouette echoing the seafaring prowess of Viking explorers. Modeled after the Gokstad ship discovered in Norway, this replica showcases the craftsmanship and navigational ingenuity that enabled Norse expansion across Europe. With its clinker-built hull and graceful curves, the ship is both a tribute to Viking engineering and a symbol of their adventurous spirit.

Together, the longhouse and ship form a compelling open-air museum, accessible year-round and free to explore. They’re not just static displays—they’re immersive storytelling tools, anchoring Unst’s identity in its Norse heritage. Whether you’re tracing the footsteps of settlers or marveling at maritime design, these reconstructions offer a tangible connection to a time when Unst was a frontier of Viking ambition.

The 35-acre Langdale Estate offers something for everyone with the 4-star Langdale Hotel, and 5-star self catering accommodation

The Estate is near the village of Elterwater in the English Lake District on the site of a former quarry.

In 1823 a local entrepreneur with an interest in quarrying, saw the potential for the manufacture of gunpowder on the site. The seclusion, natural waterpower and a growing demand from the Lakeland mines & quarries ensured success. Within a few years the Elterwater Gunpowder Works was not only supplying the domestic industry, but also exporting to North America & South Africa

The powder works closed in 1930, a victim of the depression & the development of more modern explosives, such as dynamite. A local landowner, recognising the potential of the unique location, bought & developed the site as a holiday resort in 1930 which has grown ever since

The Woodlands Waterway offers a quiet urban corridor where nature and modern architecture meet. The waterway provides a strong central leading line that draws the eye toward the distance. Glass-clad office towers rise on both sides, their cool blue façades reflecting softly in the still surface below. The reflections are nearly symmetrical, slightly softened by gentle ripples that add movement without breaking the tranquility. On the left, a curved pedestrian promenade lined with trees guides the viewer into the scene.

Barley offers lovely walks with Barley Green footpath leading to two reservoirs along Ogden Valley Greenway. At this time of the year, it is so nice to see the purple Heather painted along the hillsides.

“When fortune calls, offer her a chair”....Thanks Rita for your testimonial!

I want to take a moment and celebrate all my Flickr contacts as well - I chose to photograph a section of my kitchen chair (above) as a symbol of the friendship I have with most of you. The strands represent all of you, coming together to form a single point of strength and every day providing me with support and most of all encouragement. As with the chair, every strand counts - from the most timid but consistent "fave" (you know who you are) to the most flamboyant award giver (you know who you are too!). Please know that all this support combined has helped to up my quality and has stirred my imagination to a degree I never thought possible. We must learn to trust what we see and photograph it in the best possible way. Thank you and here's to quality, good fortune and honest opinions!

Trasquera. Italy.

From the trail that leads to Possette pass, on the southern side of Monte Teggiolo, view toward the deep groove of Zwischbergental (Valle Vaira), beyond the Swiss border. On thel left, in the clouds, the imposing north side of Pizzo Pioltone. On the right, the perfect pyramid of rock named Seehorn.

On the last saturday the Italian government was busy till night to produce new rules for its new, partial lockdown aimed to fight the Covid pandemic. There were rumours that they were going to ban travels between different regions. Therefore, despite the bad weather forecast, I decided I had to spend my day out in the mountains of Ossola before it was too late.

Scrambling to the summit of Monte Teggiolo is one of my favourite hikes, and it offers amazing views from the top. Unluckily, this time the summit was surrounded by thick clouds and you could barely see at one meter from your nose. A real pity for me because it was my first time up there with the snow. Anyhow, it is always good to be out there. The fatigue of walking alone, in the first snow of the season, with the fog freezing on my skin was a true, but brief, relief from all the anxieties of these days; while the candle was burning from both ends, with the storm and the clouds chasing me from one side and the sword of Damocles of another lockdown hunging over my head from the other.

IT

Not sure about the economics of those booths. An eclectic mix of books they offer.

Before sunset we stayed to shot a raptor that we particularly liked. We worry on our way back to find the entry to the camp closed ! A few kilometers only from our destination and near a waterhole where apparently he just drink in, a cheetah was showing off before some admirers. At first lying on the ground, the animal roll sideways, seeming very calm, enjoying himself, ignoring us. Then he stand up and left us without hurry, coming back a few times, one or two bushes away, letting us admiring his feline beauty before leaving ...The wildlife photographer knows well this intense emotion which we never tires when wild nature offers us such a gift!

Series: Venice in a different way

(EN) The curved basement gallery of Alicante's Provincial Palace offers one of the city's quieter art experiences — a circular space of polished marble, clerestory light and white walls that follow a gentle arc. Three large-format oils occupy the wall, their warm ochres and golds answering the warm tones of the stone floor.

The central work commands the room: a luminous depiction of a 1920s touring car rendered in broad, confident strokes, its golden coachwork glowing against a background of tropical vegetation and figures in period dress. The painting reads less as transport and more as theatre — movement, colour and Mediterranean light held in a single frame. Finally, the curved architecture quietly amplifies everything it contains.
