Not that I was there for any of that today but rather to suss out the elegant viaduct running right across the centre of town and which once pounded to the bark of a Castle and throbbed to the tune of a Western.
Sadly those days have long gone and while decent motive power this far west is now almost non-existent, at least the 2-car DMU did fit nicely into the gap between tree and road-sign. The train is FGW's 05.24 Bristol Temple Meads - Penzance (2C42) in the form of a Sprinter class 150. Perhaps not the service of choice for anyone making the full journey though - at just 8 minutes under 5 hours you'd certainly need your holiday by the time you arrived in Penzance.

Powerfully emotive bronze sculpture positioned at the front of the National Art Gallery of NSW in Sydney.
It is one of a pair, the other being The Offerings of Peace. Both by British sculptor Gilbert Bayes (1872 – 1953).
In 1915, after the outbreak of World War I, Bayes submitted to the National Art Gallery a pair of 18 inch bronzed plaster figures entitled Offerings of Peace and Offerings of War and the following year he received the commission to produce large bronze versions to flank the museum's main entrance. They were finished in 1923 and installed in 1926.
Both are allegorical sculptures. War holds a staff, a bundle of swords and broken spear shafts.
This statue stands 4. 2 m in height and weights 6 tonnes.

A major tourist attraction in the state of Assam is Shiva Dol. Located in the Sivasagar district, this place is one of the most famous pilgrimage spots in the country.. Shiva Dol is the tallest Shiva temple in the entire Northeast India. It is the highest temple in the country with a height of 104 feet. This temple is situated on the banks of the famous Sibsagar Lake which is more than 200 years old.
The Shiva Dol has a massive dome on top and is called the Kosoloi. This part of the temple is made of pure gold. The pillars and walls of the temples have engravings in the form of various Hindu Gods and Goddesses. This was a created by kings of Ahom dynasty.

The last of my seasonal offerings, as we managed to get a good fire blazing yesterday. Just taking these three photos over a couple of minutes I realise that the flames are constantly changing – often more interesting to look at than the TV... Toasting his chest on the left is a hare, not made of bronze as he pretends but actually fibreglass.

It is common to see Buddhist practitioners lighting candles or butter lamps while reciting prayers. This practice helps to keep the image of Enlightenment and all it represents at the centre of one's attention and is therefore said to be very beneficial on both a conscious and sub-conscious level.

The placing of miniature conical figures molded of clay and used as offerings, placed in shrines and or stupas.
Tsa-tsa are clay impressions made with a metal mould containing the hollowed, reversed image of a deity or sacred symbol. The stamped images are dried in the sun and in some cases fired into hardness.

Offering prayers is for your own sake. Simply keep your mind straight and plaint, honest and law-abiding. Be respectful for those who are above you, and be compassionate to those who are below you. Accept things as they are: what you have as what you have, what you don't as what you don't. Doing so seems to accord with the Buddha and Shinto deities. Even if you don't pray, by keeping this in mind you will enjoy various deities' protection. Even if you pray, though, if your mind is crooked, you'll be abandoned by Heaven's Way. So be careful.
