Social Distancing along the Elkhorn Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon
A beautiful Spring day exploring the back roads of Baker County Oregon along the Elkhorn Scenic byway between Sumpter and Baker City. Some great wildlife and lots of wide-open scenery and wildflowers along the way. Took a little time to explore along the way with stops at the Ah Hee Diggings historic site and a nearby abandoned mine, before checking out Baldy Creek and the historic Peavy Cabin, and ending our adventure at Anthony Lakes for a little time at the lake and lunch at the Starbottle Saloon

omchai's Love Garden," officially known as The Kingdom of Somchai's Affection, is a secluded sculpture park on Koh Mak, Thailand, created by local artist Khun Somchai. The garden features numerous concrete statues of nude women in provocative poses, reflecting Somchai's unique artistic vision.

The beautifully painted interior of Santuario di Sant'Antonio a Fulgenzio (Sanctuary of Saint Anthony in Fulgenzio), a Franciscan church built in the early 1900s and dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua, in the city of Lecce, Lecce province, Apulia region, southern Italy. The interior of the church is Apulian neo-Gothic style, very different from the Broque style of the main attractions in Lecce.

Century Farms and Small Town Charm Along The Elkhorn Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon
Spent a beautiful early summer day exploring small towns and century farms along the Elkhorn Scenic Byway in Baker County. Baker County is home to more than two dozen Oregon Century Farms and Ranches and the Elkhorn Scenic Byway and back roads along the way, are a great way to explore this working landscape of the American West.
Small towns along the way like Haines and Baker City offer visitors a glimpse at small town Americana at its best.
This scenic byway circles through the Elkhorn mountains of Northeast Oregon beginning and ending in Baker City and passing through small towns like Sumpter, Granite, and Haines. The drive is incredibly scenic with wide open panoramic views across the Baker valley, high alpine forests, and following pristine rivers and creeks along the way. In the winter Anthony Lakes is home to Oregon's highest base elevation ski resort. In the summer the pristine alpine lake is a fishing and camping destination. A huge petrified log sits on top of a high mesa and erodes through time, falling down the side. I imagine this place at one time looked like today's Redwood Forest in a swamp. I bet it was amazing! But I wouldn't want to be wading in the waters then, I've seen what lurked below the surface (gulp!)

The terrace between Moccasin Bluff and the St. Joseph River was home to temporary camps as early as 6300 B.C. Around A.D 500, inhabitants here traded with other groups of Native Americans from Illinois and Indiana. By A.D. 1100-1400, more permanent villages were established here, and the residents farmed the local lands.
By the late 1820s, European settlers moved into the area to log and farm the land. The US government then adopted a policy of moving the local Potawatomi out of the area and further west. This bluff is said to be named for Cogomoccasin, leader of one of the nearby displaced Potawatomi villages.
In 1948, the site was excavated by a University of Michigan team, which found pottery, skeletal remains and remnants of corn and storage pits. In 2002, Michigan State University excavated a wetland area at a lower elevation that had not been previously examined.
The Moccasin Bluff Site is located on a terrace along Red Bud Trail. The terrace overlooks a wide bend in the St. Joseph River containing a pair of islands. The site is protected by a half-circle of hills to the north, west and south.
The site contained large numbers of pits of four different types: storage pits, fire pits (possibly used for baking), hearths, and smudge pits (found to contain Eastern complex corn).

Voted as one of the best beach in the world by Conde Nast - Playa Rincon. The vote is always subjective, and depends on personal preference. We would agree, it is beautiful and there are abosolutely no one on the beach.

The Pendung Semurup waterfalls, approximately 15-20 meters in height, can be found on the eastern hills near the town of Semurup, and are reached after an easy, roughly one hour hike through relatively flat farmland and agroforest. The Niners won a nailbiter battle against the Falcons tonight. While I was listening to it on KNBR radio (680 AM), it was filled with emotions. The ups and downs of many seasons. The highs of almost winning to the lows of, "did i really hear the offside kick work?"
The story here was that I couldn't really get close to CandleStick. SFPD blocked off the road, so I had to settle for some other shots.
This shot will never be created again. This was shot on highway 101 with the roads being closed off to the exit sign of Candlestick, while the lights and Monday night football brighten up the stadium.
Though I never went to a baseball, or a football or any live event, I felt a little bit of the Bay Area vibe tonight.
When I travel, I love heading off the beaten path. This photograph was taken in a remote Mayan village where people live pretty much the same as they did a thousand years ago. This woman taught me how to make handmade tortillas then cooked us a wonderful, traditional Mayan-style lunch.

The festivities surrounding a Kenduri Sko festival in the village of Koto Renah, Kerinci, Sumatra, Indonesia. Close to midnight, villagers in the community of Koto Renah, Sungai Penuh, Kerinci gather to perform a dance in honor of their ancestors. During the dance, commonly performed throughout Kerinci during Kenduri Sko events, possession by ancestral spirits is common (sometimes taking the form of an ancestral tiger). On this night, cycles of dancing, singing, possession, and exorcism by the local "dukun" or shaman continued until 4 am.

A fun weekend meeting the makers at Copper Belt Winery in Keating Oregon
Enjoyed a beautiful drive to Keating Oregon to visit Copper Belt Winery in Baker County. last weekend for an evening of wine tasting and a chance to meet a couple of incredible makers, Rick DeFerrari and Andrew Beckham; the craft makers of Oregon oak wine barrels and Amphora clay vessels, learning how these vessels are made and how they influence the aging process of wine. Rick DeFerrari is Master Cooper, brought to Baker City by the Oregon Folklife Network, demonstrated the craft of making wine barrels. Andrew Beckham is an Amphora Maker and Vintner from Beckham Estate Vineyard. Andrew demonstrated the art of Amphora making, the ancient art of making clay vessels to age wine.
Copper Belt Winery is the only Oregon winery in the Snake River AVA with three vineyards located in the AVA.
