This striking image showcases One Embarcadero Center, a towering presence in San Francisco's Financial District. Its sleek, modernist design, with its distinctive stepped facade and angular lines, stands out amidst the city's eclectic mix of architectural styles. Completed in 1971, this skyscraper remains a symbol of San Francisco's post-war economic boom and its ambition to become a global financial powerhouse.
The photo captures the building's imposing height and its commanding position overlooking the Embarcadero waterfront. The interplay of light and shadow on the facade creates a dynamic and ever-changing visual spectacle, reflecting the vibrant energy of the city below.
One Embarcadero Center is more than just a landmark; it's an integral part of the San Francisco landscape, offering office space, retail shops, and restaurants to locals and visitors alike. Its presence has helped to revitalize the waterfront area, transforming it into a bustling hub of activity.
So, the next time you find yourself strolling along the Embarcadero, take a moment to admire this architectural gem and appreciate its contribution to the city's skyline.

Iruya, Argentina is a small town nestled Andes Mountains. It's known for its:
1.) Incredibly dangerous and long drive to get to this town.
2.) Quaint, picturesque streets that run up the steep slopes of the Andes Mountains.
3.) Lack of international tourists.

Once a thriving diamond mining town, Kolmanskop now stands as a haunting testament to time and nature’s power. Shifting desert sands have crept into abandoned homes, turning once-grand interiors into surreal, silent landscapes of decay.

tucked away in a park on the very edge of dedham near the west roxbury line and across from the VA hospital, this is the second to last dedham bunny i photographed and by far my favorite of the whole series. the artist took such care in painting the different animals and birds.
dedham is sometimes known as the mother of towns, i have learned in my researching, because it was originally a very large tract and many of our modern day eastern massachusetts towns were carved out of its borders. i think of totem as being the mother rabbit and indeed painted between her paws is a clutch of baby bunnies.
just checked and the info on the dedham shines website says she is the mother rabbit :):)

While out with my sister to check out off-the-beaten-path locations she had scouted in the rural area of Niagara-on-the Lake, Ontario, we stopped at an imposing red barn. On speaking with the land-owner to obtain permission to shoot on his property, we learned the main portion of the barn (seen here) dates to 1888 (although the rear addition dates to 1919, when the then owner returned from the First World War (sort of apropos given we visited on November 11). The barn is in need of some restoration but the colour is simply stunning in its surroundings. Of course, the 'Red Rule' applied and here is the result. - JW

Aerial view of Gideros Bay, one of the most beautiful bays of Black Sea, 11 km west of the town of Cide, in Kastamonu province of Turkey.
Gideros is mentioned in the text by Homeros. When he tells about the war of Troy in his famous work Ilieda, he also touches on the kingdom of Paphlagonia. He mentions that this kingdom covers the cities of Parthenios (Bartin), Sesamos (Amasra), Kromna (Kurucasile), Kytoros (Gideros) and Aigialos (Cide).

This photograph captures a nostalgic slice of urban Japan, showcasing the textured layers of a vintage shopfront and apartment balcony that speak volumes about the city’s evolving architectural story. The faded signage in traditional kanji, hand-painted on weathered surfaces, hints at a once-busy local business—perhaps a hardware store or tool shop, as suggested by the old-school lettering and visible tools.
Above the storefront, a sun-worn balcony draped in drying laundry and shaded by a bright yellow awning reveals a lived-in domestic space, common in mid-20th century Japanese mixed-use buildings. This juxtaposition of commercial and residential life is a hallmark of Showa-era architecture, when maximizing space and utility in Japan's dense urban environments was essential.
The structure’s oxidized copper panels and rusted metal framework tell a quiet tale of time’s passage—materials once pristine now softened by age and weather. These patinated textures, combined with the quirky asymmetry of laundry lines and potted plants, offer a rare, intimate look into everyday life in Japan, far from tourist trails.
Below, a bright green modern awning has been added, contrasting sharply with the vintage facade above—a visual metaphor for Japan itself: constantly balancing modern updates with deep respect for its past. This layered scene is not just an architectural curiosity, but a love letter to working-class neighborhoods, where community, resilience, and daily ritual are preserved in every detail.
Whether you're an architecture enthusiast, urban explorer, or cultural photographer, this corner storefront is a rich subject of visual storytelling, capturing the essence of Japan’s endearing messiness, quiet dignity, and everyday beauty.

Morning sunlight over Ano Syros (“Upper Syros”), a picturesque medieval settlement established by the Venetians around 1200 AD, on the island of Syros, South Aegean, Greece.
Ano Syros was sometimes referred to as the “hill of Catholics,” as it used to be inhabited by mainly Catholics islanders, who trace their origins to Venetian merchants and Frankish crusader and settled there as a safer location during the Middle Ages, when the island was subject to frequent raids by pirates.
Perched on top of the hill is the majestic Saint George Cathedral (Agios Georgios), a Catholic church initially built in 1208, has been destroyed and rebuilt three times since then.
