This male house finch takes-off from a branch. Probably in route to the bird feeder!

I presume this is the male as he spends a lot of time flapping his wings making sure he's the best looking Tui in town. He follows her around flapping any chance he gets. When she goes to the post for some food he flies in and stands next to her then gives her a sharp peck. She flies off to the other post with food on, he follows her, pecks her again she flies back to the first post again and so on.

In human world it would be called harassment.

I was happy to catch this glimpse of his stunning plumage.

Original photo that shows the two of them in the comments.

Have a happy day!

These types of shot are all about luck , and great preparation

from Mark of course, to give his clients the best experience.

No pretence from me .

This pied-billed grebe was enjoying the warm sun to help dry its wings.

A male Bushtit took off from it`s perch as I was trying to catch the action,,,,,,,, :)

An Great Egret is approaching take off from this branch on Grindstone Creek.

What looks like a noisy face-off among the nesting Royal Spoonbills was actually surprisingly quiet apart from the flapping of wings. The open bills looked quite dramatic and threatening.

I've been visiting here regularly in hope of one day soon seeing some little spoonbills. Still a way to go yet.

Happy Wings Wednesday!

First off, let's establish size here. Even though this has been shot with a macro lens, this is nowhere even close to a macro shot, not even close-focus! In fact, this is (on sensor) about 5:1 or about 1/5 life size. This (harmless to humans) wasp from head to tip of her ovipositor is around 15 cm (6") !!!, and yes you can tell it's a female, because she has an ovipositor (duh). This is the largest parasitic wasp in North America, at it's very northern boundary on the north coast of Lake Erie. I did try to get in for a macro shot of her face, but she was having no part of that paparazzi crap. First time I've ever seen this beauty, and trust me I was borderline catatonic with the excitement! Two-image stack, handheld.

I went out for a drive in the rain today to see if there was any snowy action... this snowy owl surprised me at first coming out from behind the break-water rocks at the wharf... he flew out onto the bay and caught something in his talons... then flew off away from me to scare away another snowy coming toward him. Then he landed on the navigation light close to where I was. I waited for about another half hour till he decided to fly off and I got this shot. They are so fast and I was in my car as to not get soaked ... I did manage to get him all in the frame ... lol

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️
