The sun set during this evening wedding suddenly leaving the ceremony pitch black as there were no continuous lights set up anywhere that shed light on the couple, in the chuppah/on the rabbi or on the wedding party. Fortunately before the ceremony started my husband and shooting partner, Mark Cooper, had the foresight to hang a speedlight with a transceiver from a branch above the chuppah thinking the white cloth of the chuppah would make for a nice diffuser. We thought this would supplement the ambient light and provide a bit of fill; we didn't know that it would become the ONLY source of light during the ceremony. Admittedly we got some super dramatic images but the process of getting them ended up being pretty obtrusive; kind of like a disco strobe light with the whole chuppah flashing during the ceremony. If we had to do it again, it would obviously be better to hang a continuous video light. But lesson learned: never assume that there will be lights in place for an outdoor evening wedding!

Check out a behind-the-scenes time lapse video that shows the disappearance of the ambient light during this wedding & the strobe going off here:

KGI celebrated Earth Day eve in the Alice Griffith Community Garden (AGCG) on Hunter's Point in San Francisco. AGCG is one of our 80 Sow It Forward garden grantees this year and we were happy to deliver the $600 grant of seeds and supplies in person with our friends and partners at Causes.com and Odwalla. We had a amazing group of volunteers on hand to help fill boxes with compost, build a brick walkway, install a drip irrigation system and plant everything from spinach to strawberries.Good food ahead!

this salad was absolutely DIVINE! :)

--- A compressed salad of organic baby lettuces, dates, granny smith apples, caramelized walnuts, Manchego cheese and pear dressing, drizzled with a balsamic reduction and extra virgin olive oil.

Davenport is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Cruz County, California.[2] Davenport sits at an elevation of 259 feet (79 m).[2] The 2010 United States census reported Davenport's population was 408.

Davenport lies along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, situated about 9 miles north of Santa Cruz, on Highway One. Originally on the banks of San Vicente Creek, the town expanded to the north during the twentieth century.

The town is presently noted for the spectacular cliffs and bluffs above the Pacific, beaches in between cliffs, surfing opportunities, the cement plant run by Cemex (shuttered in January 2010), and the former headquarters of Odwalla, a company that makes fruit juices.

Chocolate Protein and Pumpkin Protein. Both flavours were really good.

This week's Design Face is brought to you by the letter K and Odwalla's Strawberry C Monster. And yes, designers are always thirsty.

Jacked up for the most part via in-camera effects and whatever for kicks while awaiting a fresh pot of coffee. Mello Joy Au Lait FTW, BTW. The BC feature of the Q is interesting and a bit hit or miss.

I've tried two prior 365 projects where you make a pic daily....Not for me. Sometimes I go days or weeks without touching a shutter button. For myself the key to completing a 365 project is to allow 500 to 600 days for completion. Perhaps more. It's not that I lack self discipline. It's just that I prefer general ideas over rigid planning and recognize rules don't allow for the flexibility of loosely defined guidelines.

Anyway.... Here is today's snapshot for Weasel's mother and grandmothers.

Let's see...... Yea. :-) Check out Julie Borowski. She's fun, smart and so....sunny and probably looks great in swimwear...I don't know where that came from. Nevertheless... There it is.

Two high caloric juices (300 calories per little jug) that fool you into being super nutritious when really they're juice, sure..but loaded with extra sugar. This, I learned _after_ I got one and chugged it.

A photo I took in 2004 of a (then, of course) current journal. I was 'crazy for the [Ed] Helms back then!

I also write about voting in the primary, and my ex friend Brandon getting his braces taken off.

It was on sale, so I brought 2 to try. Not bad. Very very filling.

in a 25 year old role reversal,

i sent my parents off to a 6 day "camping" vacation on the coast, with cupcakes.

they, along with a group of friends go RVing to the coast, mine not being of the RV type set up house in a 60's era oceanside hotel room a few blocks from the campground. each year they plan out their meals & desserts to be cooked at the campground, while my parents sneak off into town and eat locally.

like my mother used to do to me when i'd go away for a week camping, she'd send me off with cookies or cupcakes to share. so i did the same.

actually, she asked me. whatever.

good old betty crocker spice cake mix, walnuts that a week ago were still hanging on the tree, some raisins soaked in odwalla orange juice & i substituted the water for martinelli's 100% apple juice.

add little dash of paula dean's rock sugar & cinnamon, with some cream cheese frosting & walnuts.

a fridge all my own.

i don't like sharing my food.

a flyer for the "really really free market" hosted by neighbors on little Powers Street in Hampden. It was so nice! In retrospect I wish I'd taken photos of my bike before and after to post on the "I carried this on my bicycle" group. I showed up with a bunch of small herb & flowering plants to give away and left with some office supplies, Odwalla bars ands juice bottles, and a huge bag containing a king sized comforter, tied on top of my bike's milk crate with shoe laces. I'm sure it looked funny, but it seemed to work for everyone. Powers St peeps, please do it again!

A great deal of gin, Odwalla grapefruit juice, and the juice of one lime wedge. Shake with finely chopped mint.

Odwalla, the famously-expensive juice, has been owned by a much larger firm since 2001. (Not to be outdone, competitor PepsiCo owns "Naked" Juice.)

Sshh, don't tell - it'll be our little secret.
