Davenport lies along the coast of the Pacific Ocean, situated about 9 miles north of Santa Cruz, on Highway One. Originally on the banks of San Vicente Creek, the town expanded to the north during the twentieth century.
The town is presently noted for the spectacular cliffs and bluffs above the Pacific, beaches in between cliffs, surfing opportunities, the cement plant run by Cemex (shuttered in January 2010), and the former headquarters of Odwalla, a company that makes fruit juices.
Help inform consumers about #organic brands that are actually owned by the world's largest GMO food producers and that are not very healthy.
For example, many juicing experts claim that a #juice should be used shortly after being made. Even so, juices from #Suja, #Odwalla, #Naked and #Bolthouse have been put through heat or pressure processes to give them long shelf lives.
Even worse, these brands are part of #Coke, #Pepsi and #Campbell's Soups, three of the largest GMO food and beverage monopolies! Suja received funds both from Coke and also Goldman Sachs, whose executives took more than $100 million in bonuses from the taxpayer bailout.
Further, Coke and other GMO monopolies profit daily from taxpayer funds using GMO ingredients, which are cheap because of taxpayer subsidies.
These massive #GMO monopolies have annual revenue hundreds of thousands times greater than small truly organic companies that struggle to compete with them. They are #bullying their way into the natural foods marketplace and seek to weaken organic standards. Some even use registered trademarks from real 100% organic companies to capitalize on the positive image associated with true organic trademarks.
These GMO monopolies have spent millions to prevent consumers from knowing that their other products are loaded with GMO ingredients and resulting #herbicide and #pesticide residues.
Become a #MightyGreens Warrior! Know the "organic" brands owned by #GMO monopolies and don't buy those products. Understand that each time you buy an "organic" brand owned by a GMO monopoly, you are helping the bottom line of those who seek to destroy organic agriculture.
Even though each GMO monopoly has bought up a few organic brands, nearly all their other products are GMO and everything-but-organic. Please share this chart that identifies those brands: bit.ly/1OPYmKo

Here come the shots. I’m trying to keep them in some kind of reverse order, so you can watch them grow up. I’m posting one narrative for all, so here’s the story:
A few shots slogging behind mom and dad through the swampy pond, a few shots of sibling rivalry, a close up of a chick and mom where both have their nictitating membrane (inner eyelid) partially closed, ending back at the beginning with a couple shots of one of the chicks on Cherry’s back. I’m ending with my fave, the chick peeking out from the arching feathers.
I’m not sure when I will post again, and I apologize if I’m a sorry contact as far as viewing and commenting on the photos of my friends. I’m okay, my neck and back are out of whack, and oddly sitting at a computer probably aggravates it more than anything. I’m taking care and in good care, but during the work week as I’m pretty much sitting at the computer all day long, it’s been the last thing I want to do in the evening.
I finally got a smart phone (an iPhone) and tablet, so now I can view and share my photos and those of my Flickr Friends, everywhere I go without lugging my laptop, or a hard drive, or whatever. It should lighten my load, literally, and I really need it right now.
I hope you all like the photos, especially my fellow “Craniacs” and nature nuts! Even with all the weird stuff this year, I keep saying, “BUT, we’ve got Sandhill Crane Chicks!!”
Oh, and the names, the names, almost forgot the names of the chicks! Over 50% of the CCR Campus Craniacs suggested these names, so the 2012 CCR Sandhill Crane Chicks are…….drrrrrrrrrrrrrum rollllllllll, Free and Style. The overwhelming and I’m talking seriously overwhelming majority of submissions were some form of Freestyle for Coca-Cola’s innovative, high-tech, personalized beverage dispenser. Ergo, instead of having a vote, I’m making the call. ALL the names suggested were awesome. Barq’s (for our rootbeer) and Honesty (for our Honest Tea brand) were close runners up, other names, Mello and Yello, Illy, and Odwalla. We even had a few suggestions of naming them for people, living or dead who impacted the history of our firm.
I was going to put it to a vote, but the Freestyle suggestions were seriously out of control via e-mail and on the street as people viewed the chicks on their fitness walks around campus and sent me Craniac reports. Over 50% of the Craniacs polled, and many who were not (but are now in the network), suggested these names. Hopefully we will have many more generations to name in coming years and use up every name possibility around our brand and products. =o)
It was inspiring to me, how many people forwarded back the e-mail they were not initially included in or responded to the article in our newsletter to become part of the network and suggest names. It was like a mini-viral moment on campus, and people are sending ME photos of the chicks taken with the phones, etc. What a joy!!!
Love, hugs and thanks for viewing! =o)

having the week off, basically, I thought I'd look into the free zoo day/afternoon... turns out it got switched to $2 tuesdays... and is on the 2nd week, not the 3rd. But, by the time that was fully realized I'd basically set my sights on a trip, and included 2 of my favorite little folk to come along. So Ella, Fiona, & I had a lovely day at the zoo!
[insane amounts of pix to come!]
Test shot with Sony A7R + Leica APO Summicron 90mm f/2. Best seen on a MacBook Pro or other device with retina display.
From a local supermarket in the San Francisco Bay area. Above: shot at f/2, below at f/5.6.
I got a little sloppy here - the f/5.6 shot was an afterthought, and I did not get the two frames identical.

I have to say... there are days I can hardly bring myself to pack... just no inspiration. But, today, as I ate my meal... I found myself enjoying it all so much, it's hard to deny that it's worth every second!
An all too common sight these days.

I know... it seems weird to look at the box upside down. But it also seemed weird to turn it around... as this is what it actually looked like in the bag! *shrug*
I like the fact that on those random "off" days I can toss a frozen meal into my LaptopLunch carry case... and still not have to worry about finding a clean fridge at work!
the conversation that ensued after I was caught pulling my camera out and snapping my lunch... yeah, let's just say I pray I don't show up in the work newsletter anytime soon for my lunches!
Today, we went to honor this awesome man, so I made us a nice breakfast to start the day. Filled with love. For us and for John.

September 2008- Current bag- custom Timbuk2 laptop messenger
(large, charcoal and black with a black Xpac center stripe)
This is my "worst case scenario" day pack for a long day at school. The bag can handle it, but my back usually can't. I have been know to carry all of this from time to time, but I normally leave the f4 or the computer at home.

The sun set during this evening wedding suddenly leaving the ceremony pitch black as there were no continuous lights set up anywhere that shed light on the couple, in the chuppah/on the rabbi or on the wedding party. Fortunately before the ceremony started my husband and shooting partner, Mark Cooper, had the foresight to hang a speedlight with a transceiver from a branch above the chuppah thinking the white cloth of the chuppah would make for a nice diffuser. We thought this would supplement the ambient light and provide a bit of fill; we didn't know that it would become the ONLY source of light during the ceremony. Admittedly we got some super dramatic images but the process of getting them ended up being pretty obtrusive; kind of like a disco strobe light with the whole chuppah flashing during the ceremony. If we had to do it again, it would obviously be better to hang a continuous video light. But lesson learned: never assume that there will be lights in place for an outdoor evening wedding!
Check out a behind-the-scenes time lapse video that shows the disappearance of the ambient light during this wedding & the strobe going off here:

14 FEB 14
Now this is love because the pain I was feeling this morning was intense, and the over the counters were having no effect, so I was trying to decide whether I wanted to make these several trips, but I'd spent a fair portion of last night baking my valentine's day cookies: an oatmeal, a chocolate chunk, and a Snickerdoodle, and so if I didn't actually deliver, I would have a crap load of cookies lying around the house, and yeah, no, that's a crap load too many.
So first stop on my random acts of love on Valentine's day trip was to my old job. The way I found out who was working without giving the game away was to email people and say, I have someone coming in, they need your services, do you work Friday. So of course, they were like, yes, or no. This instantly killed off 3 people from the list as I found out they were off on Friday (bummer) but I did tell them my original intentions just so they didn't you know actually think someone was coming to them in the future.
So found out a few of my peeps were still working. I mean, I haven't been there in two years, I didn't expect to see much of anyone I still knew, but holy cake balls Batman, the minute I walked in, the first person I saw was one of my favorite people in the world, and then out from the auditorium, my really old work buddy from nearly 7 years ago, and it was like that...one after another of people I knew came streaming in for hugs. I mean, if I had known that many still worked there I would have DEFINITELY made more cookies, but it really felt good to catch up. I finally got to see my old co-supervisor who is now the manager, who is now pregnant with twins. She looked so adorable with her little bump (she's only 3 months along, so it'll be big enough soon!). She was telling me of her morning sickness troubles and then she said, oh, you know first months awful but now its over, and as we were walking, she caught a wiff of something, and the next thing I know, she's off in the bathroom, poor thing. Then I met up with my other old co-supe who is now manager of another exhibit, and it was like old times getting to sit and talk about work, what else. Still glad not to be there, because its the same issues, different people now, so not much has changed from the headache while I was there, but...
...let's talk vindication. All the years I was a super, these two set of people on my staff complained...supervisors this, supervisors that, if I were a....and of course, sure, its easy to complain when you are on the outside looking in, but guess who is now a supervisor and HATES IT and by default is about to be out of her position, yes, one of the complainers. I said, so now that you're in it, do you owe us an apology and she was silent...yeah, buddy, that's what I thought. I heard from the staff, she hates scheduling, is always complaining, doesn't really like being there at the top...I'm just laughing in my head, like, yeah. Same goes for the other complainer who now manages at another company. He and I hung out and he went on and on about his staff and how hard he works and no one appreicates, and people give him sh--, and I'm like, again, now you know and you'll think twice about saying I could do it better and they don't do anything, and on and on. Feels good!
Anyway, it was off to jobby number two in corporate America downtown. I was not even allowed passed the lobby on the first floor as it is a national bank headquarters, so I had to sit and wait to surprise this one here, who came down in her Valentine's outfit, LOL, pink on pink. I told her, I know already you're probably having a crappy day, and she nodded solemly, so here you go, surprise, and I whipped out my little bag. Immediately she lit up, and I know her quite well...crappy bear and cards, what the heck was she going to do with that, no, food is the way to hearts and minds. It was like the best gift ever, and we ended up sitting in the lounge area and having a 45 minute conversation while she nibbled on the cookies. At one point some guy came up who did not have ANY tact what so ever. We're in the middle of a conversation and he's like, have either of you tried this Odwalla juice. My friend nods. He then starts talking about how he's never tried it blah, blah, what do we recommend. And it wasn't flirting...those guys don't linger...this guy wanted to have a full fledged conversation and was hell bent on not letting us continue ours. So, he said, which flavor, after we'd already started up our conversation again. And oh, he said, is it like a meal replacement with all these calories in it after we'd started our conversation again. And oh...so finally my friend just paused like are you done...are you done...are you done, and then after all that, doesn't buy the juice, goes off and buys a full lunch, and then, see the one only other guy in this lounge at 2pm...see all the empty chairs...out of every single table he could have sat at, he goes and asks if he could sit next to that guy and then literally sits down and starts in on him, a full fledged conversation. Did this guy need a friend? Sheesh.
I know, I know, its love day, stop being so negative, but it was to a point where the guy was just way to intrusive for it to be like, oh, hey nice talk---but besides the point, it was a great day full of surprised people, and my grinchy dark heart grew 2 sizes bigger spreading the love. It really felt good to do something nice for someone. I try to do a random act of kindess everyday I'm out in a public realm, but some times you have to step it up a notch and go full fledged angel wings!
Happy Valentine's Day Everybody.

Ok, the first time I had Odwalla Superfood was last year, and I thought it was alright. The next two times I've had it, it was horrid. It has nothing to do with it being green, its the taste. It hits you in the back of your throat.
At least its better than drinking blue Bartles and Jaymes. (I forgot the name of the flavor)
The Dasani bottles made to fit in vending machines. These used to look like minature Dasani bottles but they got jammed in the machines apparently.
I found these at the Wal Mart in Grafton, VA.
This one is my favorite though I was far away it is one of those shots you hope you will get because the time they climb around on their parents this way is pretty short. I felt lucky to see this behavior much less capture it from afar.

My other favorite healthy thing to consume is carrot juice. It's so sweet and thick, it's like drinking a meal. An interesting fact about my late Grandfather is that when he was diagnosed with bone cancer in the 70's they gave him 6 months to live. He found out when he was shaking a pointed finger at someone and broke his arm.... So with six months to live, he was determined to find a way to ensure that my Grandmother would have an income and could afford to live after he was gone. He ended up buying some property, mineral rights, oil rights and such... And to buy himself the extra time to get things in order, he started drinking fresh juices. Gallons of it a day. Juiced from the original Acme juicer which he was also selling, i believe. And this juicer is amazing let me tell you, I have one and i think it runs at about a million rpms! Just kiddin', but it squooshes all the juice out leaving only bone dry pulp. The once a year that i actually use it... lol.
So where was I? Oh yes, he was drinking gallons of juice a day. Most notably carrot juice. I dont remember how much, but i think it was at least 8 glasses a day as well as other fresh juices. He lived 7 years past the 6 months that they said he would. So... I like carrot juice. :) And this is a great brand.
