More than 100 junior Nebraska National Guard Airmen and Soldiers came together Aug. 3, 2019, at the Greenlief Training Site near Hastings, Nebraska for a friendly competition. The Recruit Sustainment Program versus Student Flight Challenge consisted of a 5-kilometer ruck march, obstacle course and a modified Army physical fitness test. Seventeen teams of trainees from the Nebraska Air National Guard's Student Flight and the Nebraska Army National Guard’s Recruit Sustainment Program (RSP) battled to represent their military branch and earn the top team honor. Obstacle #2 (“Das Boot”- section starts here)
This one deserves the name “The Super Obstacle”, because it has three of it’s own.
First, you need to descend into this claustrophobic space holding on to a rock, and step by step climb down until you can immerse yourself safely into the water, which is about in the low-40s in May.
Then, swim to the second obstacle where you need to climb up sideways on the rock in order to go through the narrow opening.
Lastly, after more swimming, there’s the third obstacle where you have two choices, go under the water, or climb a steep piece of rock to get to the other side. Finally, swim a little more until you reach the shore.
The girls got some help, but the rest of us had to do it ourselves.
