A Cadet moves from rung to rung on the 20-foot horizontal ladder, a.k.a. Monkey Bars, obstacle as part of the Indoor Obstacle Course Test on Feb. 11 in Hayes Gym. To successfully navigate the obstacle each Cadet must grasp each of the rungs from end-to-end without falling. A Cadet must pass the IOCT in their cow year during their Dept. of Physical Education class. Nearly 600 members of the Class of 2010 tested their physical ability against the 11-event course, those who passed are done with it forever while those who succumbed to the course will retake the test later this semester.

A Cadet carries a baton during his second lap of the 350-meter run as part of the Indoor Obstacle Course Test on Feb. 11 in Hayes Gym. Another Cadet runs hands-free to the finish line, while another Cadet (in the background) carries a 9-pound medicine ball signifying his first lap. Nearly 600 Cadets from the Class of 2010 completed the IOCT as part of their Dept. of Physical Education requirements, continuing a Long Gray Line tradition.
On Saturday, I ran in my first adventure race. It is called the Gladiator Assault Challenge and was 5.3 miles long with 30 obstacles this year. The left side is me before I started, i.e. clean. The left side is the coming out of the starting shoot. I'm not in that photo, but it gives you the tone of the event :) The bottom of the photo on the right is where we got muddy the first time :) Notice I said the first time.
It was a fantasticly fun event. I finished in 1 hour, 44 minutes, and 32 seconds. I hoped to finish in about 1:30, but my main goal was sub 2:00. I'm happy with my results.

The IOCT, which Cadets are first introduced to in their Plebe year, is a Dept. of Physical Education requirement that Cadets must pass in their Cow year. Nearly 600 Cadets of the Class of 2010 competed against the clock last week in what many hoped would be their last running of the famed course.
