Ison litiofiliittirakeen yhteydessä olevaa kirkasta kvartsimaista mineraalia. Teräspiikki naarmuttaa sitä suhteellisen helposti eli kovuus on alle kvartsin seiskan. Ostin omani Rautiasta 5 eurolla ja kvartsikiteen pintaa se ei naarmuta, maasälpää juuri ja juuri. Arvioisin näytteen kvartsimaisen mineraalin kovuudeksi 5 - 6 Mohsin asteikolla.
Näytteessä näkyy naarmutusjälkiäni, muun muassa pystynaarmu miltei oikeassa reunassa.
Laitoin minimurusen kvartsimaista 37% suolahappoon ja nyt useiden tuntien kuluttua murunen on muuttumaton. Mineraali ei fluoresoi, minkäänlaisia kidepintoja ei ole ja murrokset ovat simpukkamaisia. Litiofiliitin + sekundäärifosfaattien lisäksi näytteessä on muskoviittia ja maasälpää.
Epäilen mineraalin olevan pehmeydestä huolimatta kvartsia.
Googlailin hieman kvartsin kovuutta. Perusoppaissa sanotaan että kvartsin kovuus on 7, mutta tuo tarkoittaa puhdasta alpha kvartsia, eli matalassa lämpötilassa kiteytynyttä peruskvartsia,
ja luultavasti vielä sen kidepintaa.
Epäpuhtaat kvartsit ja amorfiset kvartsit ovat yleensä peruskvartsia eli alpha -kvartsia pehmeämpiä. Tässä muutamia esimerkkejä: obsidiaani 5 - 6, kalsedoni 6 - 7, amorfinen kvartsi 5.3 - 6.5, jaspis 6.5 - 7, piikivi 6.5, aventuriini 6.5, opaali 5 - 6.5, akaatti 6.5 - 7 ja jotta juttu ei olis liian helppoa kovuustiedot tuntuvat vaihtelevan ja esimerkiksi krysopraasin kovuudeksi ilmoitetaan 6 - 8.
Naarmutettavan pinnan laatu vaikuttaa myös paljon kovuustestin tulokseen, ja hyvin lohkeavilla myös suunta johon raaputetaan. Kvartsilla kun ei ole lohkopintoja niin raaputussuunnalla ei ilmeisesti ole merkitystä tuloksen kannalta? Entapä kvartsikiteen pinnat, tuleeko eri tulos jos prismapintaa naarmuttaa pitkin tahi poikin...
