There are few joys I feel as genuine as going where streams cut low and cliffs climb high. Sharp ascent of bare rock, never to be buried by dirt again, growing ever more naked with time. Windswept and rain-worn, cracked by frost. I turn to these places because they bury me in quiet. Not that there's much of any noise out here anyway, past the power lines of Victoria Beach, into the upper reaches of Boudreau Brook. If a distant chainsaw filters through, it'll be the only human sound for miles. Where did my obsession with silence start? It was something about being nervous that set it off. Anxiety has trouble defining its own borders, so once I eliminate all outside stimuli, it serves as a sort of reset. A reminder that all my enduring emotional unease is internal. Can't run away, don't want to. But I can get just far enough to be sure of the way back home to me.

i had the prosciutto di parma, arugula and grana padano with 12 years old balsamic vinegar and 3 cheeses on the side. i'm unsure of the cheeses, but the dippings - yum! pumpkin ginger compote, date walnut cake, and acacia honey.
of course, i could just eat bread dipped in olive oil for the rest of my life.

Season 3 had just been released when I started to fall in love with this show. A little late, I know, but I caught up and have never enjoyed network TV quite like this. My friends had always jocked the show, but I'm not that into TV so I never got into it. I won a bet with my girlfriend awhile back, and decided to spend the bet on Season 1 of Lost. She thought it was stupid at first, but I immediately got hooked. After a few episodes she was right there with me. We've been catching up frantically so we can catch Season 5 on TV, and I just got this in the mail the other day and have been watching it furiously ever since.
Anybody else obsessed with this show? I could be called borderline psychotic.
