Old shot, reprocessed! It looks much better now.. Thanks to some great sharpening tips given by Suhas!
Always fun to visit Greenwich, the Prime Meridian, and the observatory.

"The Portland Observatory is the only remaining historic maritime signal station in the United States. As an intact survivor from the Golden Age of Sail, the Observatory was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, became a National Historic Landmark in 2006, and named a National Civil Engineering Landmark in 2006. It celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2007."

The Parkes Observatory has to be my most favourite thing to photograph. Whenever we're driving through outback New South Wales, I always have to stop and get some shots of it. I was pleased to get a different perspective this time. Have a great week everyone.
From Wikipedia:
The Parkes Radiothermal Telescope, completed in 1961, was the brainchild of E.G. (Taffy) Bowen, chief of the CSIRO's Radiophysics Laboratory... The primary observing instrument is the 64-metre movable dish telescope, second largest in the Southern Hemisphere... During the Apollo missions to the moon, the Parkes Observatory was used to relay communication and telemetry signals to NASA, providing coverage for when the moon was on the Australian side of the Earth.

Mist surrounding the Sphinx Observatory.
The Sphinx Observatory is an astronomical observatory located above the Jungfraujoch in Switzerland. It is named after the Sphinx, a rocky summit on which it is located. At 3,571 m above mean sea level, it is one of the highest observatories in the world. Accessible to the public, it is also the second highest observation deck in Switzerland.

Enjoy panoramic views from World Trade Center Building Observatory Seaside Top. Approximately 152 meters above ground, you can see Tokyo Tower, Tokyo Skytree, Odaiba and sometimes even Mt. Fuji. Take your time to enjoy the city skyline. The view is remarkable at night (GoTokyo).

When Allegheny Observatory became established at the University of Pittsburgh, research became its primary function. Allegheny Observatory has a rich history in a variety of areas, and it became especially well-known for its astrometric parallax research program, which set the standard for measuring the distances to nearby stars.

The Playfair Building houses a 6inch refracting telescope on the left. On the right is the largest dome and has a 22 inch refracting telescope. The observatory opened in 1898 and was in use until 2009 after vandels stole roofing materials making the building unusable.

A 5 portrait joiner of the sunrise at Observatory Hill, Durham this morning. I wanted to make the most of the clouds and foreground grasses and thought a stitcher would work best, this is the result.
Griffith Observatory with downtown Los Angeles in the background.
I've been wanting to hike up to this spot for a sunrise for quite a while. There obviously is some luck involved with getting a good sunrise, and this morning was more of a miss than a hit overall. I liked these purple and pink tones that I got before the sunrise, but the underlit effect on the clouds that I was hoping for never happened. This spot has a great line of sight though, so I'm sure I'll be back to try again.

Taken on our recent family holiday to the USA. It was the most beautiful evening and our last night in LA when we went to the observatory. The place was so crowded but I managed to enjoy a few peaceful moments alone on the walking track below.

at MKO, Mauna Kea Observatories district, 13, 678' above sea level. An exciting place to visit, as I did for the sunset display, above the clouds. See adjacent frames and Hawaii Album for more views of surroundings. There are 13 telescopes atop the mountain.
The tower known as La Specola rises on the spot where Ezzelino III da Romano, the 13th-century tyrant of Padova, had built his fortified castle.
The present-day tower was erected in the 14th century, after the fort was rebuilt by Francesco I da Carrara. In 1767 the building was converted into an astronomical observatory (specula). In 1777 the tower housed a lower observatory, 16 metres above ground level, and an upper observatory at a height of 35 metres. The lower observatory was named the Sala Meridiana; noon was measured on the meridian line sunk in the floor. The upper observatory has walls of eight metres, and its large windows are almost six metres high.
The observatory remained in use until the 1930s, when the University decided to procure a large modern telescope; the site selected for the instrument was Asiago, on a plateau north of Padova, where the new structure was commissioned in 1942.

Unfortunately the only night I was able to visit was extremely cloudy so there was zero chance to get any stars in the photo at all, but it was still very cool to be able to visit.
This was shot at the McDonald Observatory near Fort Davis, Texas. I used a Canon 5D Mark III. 30 seconds, ISO 3200, 16-28mm Tokina lens at 16mm. Taken on November 20th. I didn't even notice the red light in the dome until I looked at the first image on the back of my camera. To the eye there was only a very dim glow of red but it was rendered as a strong red glow by the camera. clarkcrenshaw.photodeck.com/-/galleries/travel-and-archit...
