Fabra observatory is located on Mount Tibidabo, 415 meters above sea Level, overlooking the city of Barcelona. It is an astronomical, meteorlogical and seismological observatory, established in 1904.
The main instrument of the astronomical observatory is a great double reafractor housed in the 10m dome. The observatory is also equipped with a transit instrument.
This is an astronomical observatory of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. It was designed by the Providence-based firm of Stone, Carpenter & Willson. It was built in 1891. Besides astronomical research, It's main telescope is a 12-inch (30 cm) refractor with a lens made by John Brashear. The equatorial mount and mechanical clock drive were made by George N. Saegmuller. The Ladd Observatory sent out a time signal for decades. When they decided to stop the service in the 1970s, they discovered that nobody was actually receiving it.
This morning I headed out to Clifton for what I was hoping would be sunrise, unfortunatly the sun never came but there was other things that caught my attention.
The Ladd Observatory is an astronomical observatory of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, USA. The observatory was dedicated in 1891 and is named for benefactor Herbert W. Ladd who funded the construction. Astronomers associated with Ladd include Winslow Upton. Frank W. Very, Frederick Slocum and Charles H. Smiley.
H. P. Lovecraft had free access to the observatory for several years and wrote astronomy articles for Providence newspapers based upon his study there between 1906 and 1918.
The Gemini observatory on Mauna Kea, Hawaii.
Note that it the Moon rising, not the Sun, and Gemini uses a laser to help focus the images, as does the Keck Observatory just around the corner - you can see both at various moments in the timelapse.
Music is Violette by Feather Drug (free to use via Jamendo's creative commons licence).
Note that, if I ever get the time, I will redo it: the images need rotating slightly to stop it looking like Gemini will roll down the hill at any moment; and I also need to fix a few of the nasty battery-changing jumps!
With 50 seconds left, you can see me chatting to one of the Gemini 'spotters' - the guys who look out for aircraft to ensure that it is safe to use the laser guide star.
Griffith Observatory is an icon of Los Angeles, a national leader in public astronomy, a beloved civic gathering place, and one of southern California's most popular attractions. The Observatory is located on the southern slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park, just above the Los Feliz neighborhood.
A panoramic shot of the Griffith Observatory above Los Angeles. It only took me 15 minutes to get a show with no people in it.
Meegiemoo suggested that Beefy and I visit the observatory for a photo shoot. I’m so glad she did. The observatory was absolutely lovely (and fascinating). We’ll be returning for a full tour.

Allison and Denise at the McDonald Observatory in West Texas near Fort Davis. A neat place to visit. Star parties many nights and once a month you can actually look thru one of the huge ?100 inch scopes. You can even stay here as the old astronomer quarters have been converted into guest rooms. The astronomers no longer come here but get all their data over the internet. You just have the engineers, mechanics and IT people that stay here.
Observatory Hill for sunrise this morning, no colour but the storm clouds over the North made for an interesting exposure.
Observatory Park, Montville Twp., Ohio, Geauga County - An amateur astronomer's playground complete with telescope pads with power, a restored vintage observatory, outline of the Great Pyramid and a Henge.
The awesomeness in this image comes in layers. The closest layer, in the foreground, contains the Peak Terskol Observatory located in the northern Caucasus Mountains of Russia. The white dome over the 2-meter telescope is clearly visible. The observatory is located on a shoulder of Mt. Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe, with other peaks visible in a nearby background layer. Clouds are visible both in front of and behind the mountain peaks. The featured three-image composite panorama was taken in 2014 August. Far in the distance is the most distant layer: the stars and nebulas of the night sky, with the central band of the Milky Way rising on the image right. via NASA antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap141230.html

A shot of the Griffith Observatory with the Los Angeles skyline in the background. This shot was taken on the Mount Hollywood Trail in the early morning hours as the sun was rising. Photoshop editing was done to achieve the tonality.
