This comic was a challenge, but a rewarding one. My goal was to show the passage of time through the way objects on a table get rearranged, and I eventually settled on the idea of a candy bowl, with a single candy that doesn't belong. I wanted to have a definitive "protagonist" in this comic, and I think the coloring helps make that clear, since the out of place blue candy stands out among all the red candies.
The grave is the object, and the spirit of the grave is tormenting the graveyard with spooky sights.

While working on the theme of Lost Spaces, I took a page from an old book and cut out all the spaces from between the words. What remained was a page with tiny squares where light could shine through, and a pile of little square pieces of paper. I had recently found an old family photo of a field and used this as a background, or "set", for my first stop-frame animation. I moved the pile of lost spaces around the field to make them look like a murmuration of birds swooping, dancing, grouping and dispersing. I wanted to present the animation in a low-tech way; I prefer the idea the intimate experience of holding a hand-made object to the colder passivity of watching an animation on a screen. It somehow has more charm to it this way. Also, the sound the flipbook makes it reminiscent of the fluttering wings of birds. (72 images, 10cm x 5cm x 2cm, held together with a clip)
