Minneapolis underground art gallery. Accumulated Objects showed local Minneapolis artists from Jan 2009- July 2010. We had a lot of fun having shows in our little space, but with little funding, we unfourtunetaly had to stop. Thanks to all the people who came to our shows to see some original local talent!

Depth Of Field example. This is an assignment I did using DOF and we used the objects in a row idea. This is when the front is in focus.

This Asian object is a miniature jade Buddha that I bought as a souvenir while in China. (It is not the actual, because I gave the one I bought to my grandfather). Jade automatically makes me think of China because of its long history of being such a regal and powerful stone. I also bought a jade bracelet while I was there and the woman who sold it to me explained that jade is believed to ward off evil. That is in large part why so many people in China wear these bracelets, or jade necklaces. This particular Buddha was being sold right outside of the Jade Buddha Temple. Inside that temple, hence the name, there was an enormous jade Buddha, and I realized that these miniature Buddhas were more than just souvenirs. Buddha being that which Buddhism is centered makes this small figurine quite spiritual in nature. Had this Buddha been in a store in the United States, I would still consider is to be “Asian” because of the origins of Buddha and the importance jade has in that part of the world. Yet, it wouldn’t be as “authentic” to me. Yes, both Jade Buddhas could have easily been manufactured in the same place, one being shipped to the U.S., while the other to China, but the feelings I had surrounding the experience of seeing the temples, and being in China, make this Buddha figurine feel much more genuine. Tag words that I would use to describe this object are: Buddha, Jade, Figurine, China, and Asian.

The pleasures of country life! In the object store that forms the basement of the building.

i'm trying to cook pork sinigang, a Philippine dish usually made sour with tamarind.

This is yet another object of desire. As you can see by now, the stuff that

I like are generally sleek and simple with very clean lines. I nearly bought

this watch, when I was out shopping for one a few years ago. But in the end,

I bought somehting else of better value and which I would kick myself for

not buying. Still, this one is nice enough to go into my OOD folder.

Assignment: PCA07 - Tools

Mission:

This is a one and on-half week assignment. The goal is to celebrate tools. Tools and their use are arguably the basis of life as we know it. Almost every object in our lives is a tool; everything from a hammer or kitchen knife to a camera, computer or bulldozer. For this assignment, pretty much everything from a still life of a hammer or knife to a dump truck or the space shuttle is acceptable. Tools in use are fine and in context great; but the tool must be prominent and obvious. As always, wall grade art is what we strive for.

I'm hoping that you will pick a tool(s) that makes an obvious difference in your life or else which portrays a concept that is important to you. If you are a carpenter, hammers, saws and such are important. If you are a cook, knives, pots, stoves, etc. are important. If you are a programmer, I don't know how to take a picture of your editor. If you are a photographer, clearly the camera is iconic. I'm hopeful that we do not end up with 50 pictures of cameras. Anyway, you get the picture (pun intended.)

WIT

A dark room, a flash light and my grandmothers watch. Again I used the book I got for my birthday last week. I had so much fun with it. I took out all kinds of tools. Displayed them on the table made the room totally dark opened the lens and shine some light with my flashlight. This one came out best I think. I choose to cut the bottom reflection out of the picture. It wasn't a good one.

"Objects in mirror.. bla bla bla... "

This is the very familiar pic we see everywhere.. right from the ads to flickr.

Shot during my drive to Yosemiti.
