The end of the Celtic year, the end of October is approaching and the border between this world and the otherworld is becoming thin allowing spirits to pass through.

Night Photography on the Alps

Shot taken on November 23rd 2012 while wandering during the night in the Col du Mont-Cenis area (2.083 m), France.

This is the road which links Italy with France on the alpine pass.

On that day it was already closed because of some snow/ice. This was a clear trait, and considering that during my explorations I definitey have nothing to do with paved roads (just tracks, rocks, paths, whatever) this time I've thought to take advantage of this unusual presence :-)

Although the sun had gone down since a while, I had already noticed from previous shots that thanks to long exposures the sky above the distant city of Susa was producing a lovely orange hue because of light pollution.

So, walking, I've paid attention to find out a convenient spot where to align the road with this remote source of light.

Having this shot a symbolic purpose "afterlife" I've then deliberately studied a composition with the camera properly tilted on the tripod.

I've seen all the science fiction movies and generally the moment of transition between different dimensions is always represented with some sort of motion and/or considerable inclination of the camera, I guess in order to symbolize the dynamics of the passage itself and that what is "beyond" not necessarily is in accordance with the way we do perceive reality, geometries, here... in this dimension.

I was actually planning on creating a totally different image for this week, but loved this as soon as I shot it. It reminded me of what direction I was wanting to take my photography, I had this idea a couple of years ago, of creating characters that lived in this lost in between place. A world that changes you, if only you can survive it. That's where most of my characters live, but you normally only see the dark effect and not the beginning. This character has yielded to this dark place; and with one fingertip, she has surrendered herself completely.

I would like to apologize to all who have marked me as a contact lately. I only now saw that the contact notifications are under a separate part in Flickr Mail and so did not see them at all. I will go through them and mark you back as soon as I can. Again, sorry, I did not mean to ignore anybody!

Finally, an upload! Happy very late new year to you all and (even later I know) I hope you all had a lovely Christmas :)

This is the first of a new series I'm planning all based around this mirror (which I got at a bargain price of £15) so I'm really excited to plan the rest of the shots! I might also upload a before/after of this to my Facebook page :)

Sometimes certain characters make us go back to the decidedly dark times of our past history.

Playing on the forest floor.

Drifting of to dream some more.

Green surrounds the senses and opens a door.

Day dreaming of a topsy turvey forest core.

Sunlight light and shadows dance and soar.

Playing on the forest floor.

Taken from the first visit here. On the second visit the door behind me has what looks like dog poo on the floor which is in fact barn owl pellets and we also saw a rather large bat. Seems like this place is still in use :)

Visited with Mars Lander and a second look with climbing the walls rob biek and the Thrashers :)

Night boulevard, streetlights

stand like shimmering

beacons to the otherworld:

a girl crossing beaded with rain;

wind carries her words to those

long gone, shadows now

across the road on the warehouse

wall, graffiti left by an aerosol artist

and she, alone, pauses, midstream

as traffic rushes past, conversing

with some invisible companion

and when she turns our way and

sees us watching, startled by what

we know not and do not see, her

gaze goes through us, a beam

of darkness, her eyes unfocused

on this world, turning away now,

following a call farther down

the road, a shrill cry beyond

this moment where others wait.
