It was really starting to cloud over making the stars less visible. Oh well, it was a fun night even though my toes were freezing.

Welcome back, Orion! Changing seasons means the winter constellations are returning. This stacked photograph was taken with a Canon R5, 400m lens, and 1.4 teleconverter on an iOptron Skyguider Pro.

2 Nébuleuses visibles, deux presque détectables...

Ciel pollué (et surtout trop humide) à l'horizon.

Pas de guidage, une seule prise.

The small line of stars you can see in the middle of the photo is the Orion belt, The photo has been taken in the Maldives Islands where the light pollution is reduced at its maximum

A loaded ore train returns to Braddock, Pa as seen from the famous Westinghouse bridge.

This shot is a result of an effort to include railfanning with my trucking career resulting in finding a convenient parking spot for my layover about a ten minute walk from this location.

The Walburgis Chapel is located in the forest on the Kahlberg, a historical spot where Emperor Charlemagne defined the borders of his empire and the Mark Heppenheim in 795.

There is evidence of a chapel on this site as early as the 16th century - no one knows when it was first built.

The chapel is dedicated to St. Walburga, who is said to have been a niece of the missionary Boniface. Some believe the site may have previously been a Celtic and Germanic mountain sanctuary. Indeed, Christian missionaries often rededicated pagan places of worship rather than destroying them.

The Celtic thesis is supported by the fact that remains of ore mining, which the Celts already operated, have been found.

Pilgrimages to this chapel still take place today - a magical place with a fantastic view.

I can always find Orion when I look up and it's above the horizon. Since the dawn of man, we have looked up at the sky at night and found patterns, whether they're there or not.

Darwin Deez has a great song about this, "Constellations". (He uses our tendency to assign connections to things that aren't connected as a metaphor for difficulty humans have connecting with each other.)

[Verse 1]

Twinkle, twinkle, little star

How I wonder what you are

There’s a million little lights

When the sky turns black tonight

Are there patterns in our skies?

Are patterns only in our eyes?

[Chorus]

Or is a constellation just a constellation?

Is a constellation just a consolation?

[Verse 2]

Wrinkle, wrinkle, little scar

Count the freckles on my arm

If freckles don’t mean anything

Does anything mean anything?

[Chorus]

Or is a constellation just a constellation?

Is a constellation just a consolation?

[Bridge]

We are twinkling stars

Resurrected

Just like twinkling stars

We seem connected

But I know

[Chorus]

That a constellation is just a constellation

Constellation is just a consolation

Constellation is just a consolation

There's a great video for the song at www.youtube.com/watch?v=37sKI7d7-xA

An ore wagon at Bodie, California. Bodie is a former gold mining town east of the Sierra Nevada mountain range and north of Mono Lake. It once had a population of about 10,000. Only about 5 percent of the town remains. It became a California State Historic Park in 1962 and is maintained in a state of "arrested decay".

A beautiful evening sky last night! Shot with my Canon 7D and a 50mm 1.8. Applied a Star Spikes filter in PS after the fact. In the future I'm going to play around with fog filters when shooting stars to get a better approximation of what the human eye sees!

If you see closely at the stars in Orion's Belt this is what they look like

Well at least for me

A guy pulling a heart

How cool isn't that

Love is in the air :D

I obviously had a nice night walk in the moonshine this evening, except for Aiko pulling the leash every time I should shoot

No wonder there is a man in the moon, lol
