An Orb Weaver in the spotlight. This is the second Orb Weaver that has taken up residence on my deck.
Huge Female Orb-Weaver Spider, not sure of the exact species. Couldn't get closeup from the from the front as there was no way get it close through the bush, also when it comes to big spiders, i am not at all a comfortable person.

Original thought this was a trashline orb weaver, Cyclosa conica, but it turns out it's an orb weaver of the genus Metepeira, and the "trash" is mostly egg sacks.
Taken out at the Baylands Trails in Sunnyvale.
This is a spider, I promise. Steve spotted it and had to point it out to me pretty closely before I could see it. It's all balled up like a fist, which camouflages it pretty well against this spiky plant.
It was sitting next to an orb web; but I don't know for sure that it was his.
No, not an optical fault with the lens. 'Tis the sun, behind clouds. Taken at Bluffers, not that it makes a difference . . .
this orb of golden white light just appeared from nowhere when i was walking my dog on the footpath next to south shields golf course.
Its size was about the same as a basketball.
the object was silent and was surrounded by an electrical discharge or coronal type effect, really quite beautifull to look at.
The orb travelled west for several hundered yards untill it came to the outer boundary of the golf course and then it just hovered for several minutes at a height of perhaps 20-30 feet.
The wind direction was blowing south at 3.7 kph.
I used the stone wall to steady the camera and got quite a few shots as it hovered.
After a few minutes of hovering it departed in a southerly direction towards cleadon village.
As it flew off it maintained the same low height it had throughout the sighting.
I can see a face in the orb, just me?
Look at it in its largest size then tilt your head to the left...
