A chilly, misty and foggy sunrise in the La Crosse Blufflands seemed to create the perfect setting for this dead or dying birch tree.

In search of gold dust

Madagascar - These Madagascans are searching for gold dust in the bowels of gold-bearing lands. During the tourist season, many foreigners see them wading in the muddy waters, but they think they are cultivators.

But they are in a hurry to get by car to Antoetra, the hamlet which is the starting point of a trek lasting several days to visit the villages and mountain populations of Zafimaniry.

So if you do not know that these families are digging in search of gold, we do not pay attention to them. They blend into this tormented setting.

Happy Father’s Day!

An adult ‘alae ‘ula teaches the brood to forage for a meal at the edge of a marsh. Despite being nearly fledged and the chicks occasionally pecking at their findings, they still vocally and behaviorally begged to be fed by the adult. The ‘alae ‘ula is an endangered, Hawaiian endemic subspecies of the common moorhen or gallinule. They typically construct a platform nest in marsh or wetland embankment vegetation. In Hawaiian mythology, the red shield is the result of scorching received while delivering fire from a deity to humans.

Valløy or Vallø is a peninsula by the Oslo Fjord in Slagen in Tønsberg municipality in Vestfold. The peninsula is only about 1 km long and half a km wide, and is located at the entrance to the town of Tønsberg from the east. The peninsula is small, but has nevertheless been very important in national and local industrial history. Valløy was located in the former Sem municipality, which was merged with Tønsberg in 1988.

In 1739, Vallø saltworks was established. The plant was in operation until 1860 when it was closed down. Since then came several industrial companies, including Vallø glassworks, Vallø wallpaper factory and from 1899 Scandinavia's first oil refinery. The first master of distillation was the Austrian Frantz Drtina. After only a few years, this company had problems with profitability, and in 1905 a new company, A / S Vallø Oljeraffineri, was started.

In connection with the saltworks, Valløy church was built in 1782. During the Napoleonic Wars, Valløy was equipped in 1808 with a cannon battery and coastal protection to defend the entrance to Tønsberg town and the saltworks. In the 1820s, Valløy became the port of call for Norway's first steamship, the DS «Constitutionen».

On April 24, 1945, the refinery and the island were bombed by British planes in what is later known as the bombing of Vallø. At least 52 Norwegian civilians were killed and an unknown number of German soldiers lost their lives. The refinery, which was run by Esso Norway from 1905, did not come back into operation until the early 1950s. The wallpaper factory was also rebuilt. At most, more than 500 people lived on the peninsula, but after World War II, the number dropped radically.

Valløy school was in use from 1915 to 1942.

Until 1960, oil was refined using sulfuric acid. The waste product acid stream was deposited on the east side of Vallø and has been there until Esso Norge AS in 2015 started work on removing acid stream, bleach soil and other oil residues. [1] It is estimated that around 300,000 tonnes of contaminated mass will be removed by boat or truck. The work, which is carried out by Veidekke Entreprenør AS and the Belgian company Deme Environmental Contractors (DEC). The work was completed in March 2020.

Nuremberg Castle, or Kaiserburg, is one of the most important castles in the history of the German Empire. Between 1050 and 1571 all the German and Holy Roman Emperors lived there at various times. Nuremberg Castle was built in stages on a sandstone hill on the north side of Nurembergs's old city and there are actually three parts to the castle: the Kaiserburg (Emperor's Castle) in the west and complete in itself, the Burggrafenveste (Count's Castle) in the middle and also the oldest part, and the Stadtburg (part belonging to the Imperial City) on the eastern side. It reached its massive present size and length of 220 meters in three stages of construction between the 11th and the 15th centuries

An eastbound UP manifest passes through the small town of Biggs Junction, Oregon. Biggs Jct. was once the location where the Columbia Southern Railway left the OWR&N mainline for the nearly 70 mile run south to Shaniko, OR. The opening of the Oregon Trunk and Des Chutes Railroad into central Oregon stole away much of the lines traffic. The Shaniko Branch was cut back to Kent, OR in 1943, with the remainder of the line abandoned in 1967. Today Biggs Junction is home to a grain terminal on the Columbia River. Aside from the fall wheat rush, the town now mostly caters to those traversing I84.

Un soir j'ai voulu partir repérer un chemin le long de l'étang de l'or. Seulement j'avais à ma charge mes trois petites princesses.

Yesterdays roast chicken. 180 degrees C / 356 degrees F. Delicious.

To make this photo more attractive, auto enhance used, which lowered the high tone, raised the low tone, increased contract and saturation, refined the details. The final one is quite different from the original. So, is this one better than the original? Well, it may bring out more than my eyes can notice, but it is a little far from the reality. Or I was restricted by the camera I used? What should we capture through the camera? reality or fantasy?

Or something like that.
