Was setting up a filter for emails in Gmail and noticed a forwarded email address not working. Nice that the note is in red - not nice that the system didn't contact me to let me know, which is what a 'notification' is supposed to do. Clicking on the 'view details' link gets you a new window that shows a bunch of the errors - again nice, but if you don't contact the user, it's not useful to notify, is it?
Makes you wonder how many systems have messages in them where we've designed to notify someone of something, but forget that if we don't design the notification itself properly, then it's a shout into the darkness.

View in Large (1024 x 424) The concept of how notifications would show! They would have a special alert sound as well, like with Messenger, varying depending on the the type of notification it is (network, goal achievement, best answer chosen, new answer, are some types).
A simple click to the cross removes the notification from the side, but not in the notification menu (elaborated elsewhere).
Less important notifications that don't require immediate attending to float down to the bottom.
