A look at a copper solenoid (a coil of wire designed to produce a magnetic field when electric current is passed through it) seen perpendicular to the long axis of the device.

This solenoid was wound around a square frame, which gives rise to the sharp ‘cutoff’ at its top edge. The area of the coil in the photo is about an inch square. Straight outta the camera, except for a crop.

HMM!

P.S. From my end, Flickr is close to not being functional at all at this point. I can’t search, I can’t see my groups, and the notifications are hallucinating. I’m uploading this from my iPad using the (now unsupported) Photo Explorer app. So with this I’m going to sign off from Flickr until after the transition to Amazon Cloud is complete ...

I haven't posted many damselflies. These delicate beauties are small and slender - like the Girl From Ipanema (I hate that song) - and more difficult to photograph than dragonflies, at least with my camera equipment. Well, they're more difficult to focus on because they love to perch near every bit of vegetation that a pond has to offer.

But I got this one, and that was quite a few years ago. Perhaps the shorter focal length of that camera had something to do with it. And then there's the fact that my knees bent and my balance was steady back in them thar days.

Hey, I lost notifications, but Flickr found me on the map. I'm no longer at an undisclosed undetermined underground bunker...

I´m not willing anymore to waste my time for SL people who use FLICKR without giving any respect. Too much time i felt like i´m in a nuthouse or kindergarten .

People posting pics in 40+ faves group but only have 3. People posting colored images in a only monochrome group, posting normal images in a only textured pics group, posting in awarding group but don´t award other, posting couple pics in a only men group and posting also in a high quality group even their image is just a snapshot. I didn´t get paid to run my groups and gosh yea i expected more respect.

I get punished for that i´m admin of SL groups and don´t get deserved faves anymore and god yea i know my work is good but when i compare to other members images getting 220 for a snapshot than something is going wrong here.

FLICKR is by far not anymore what it should supposed to be and i won´t play this game " gimme fave and i fave yours " !

For that i decided to close my sl groups (except blog and RL groups) and stop moderate other groups i´m admin of.

I won´t waste my precious time anymore on my groups where idiots just click ADD ADD ADD and don´t give a shit in which group they post and what are the requirements of a group! And when you post in 240 groups within 5 min it´s fact you don´t care of any rules and thats out of any respect to other group members and to me too, so rudely !

I don´t want your pink stars, neither i won´t give anymore, i don´t want group invites (except for blogging and RL groups ) neither i won´t invite anymore.

And to all my true FLICKR friends, i´m very sorry, please understand my decision.
