As the old legend says, there were three brothers - Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv and their sister Lybid…They founded the medieval city in the name of their eldest brother and named the city Kyiv, which eventually became the capital of Kievan Rus' and present-day Ukraine.
This monument was opened in May 2017.
The founders of Kyiv are depicted as small children. The composition consists of four bronze figurines of babies. Three boys - Kyi, Shchek and Khoryv are playing with paper ships on the stylized map of Kyiv, which is the basis of the composition.
There is a hidden symbolism in the paper boats that the three brothers launch on the Dnipro. According to the author Volodymyr Zhuravel: “A ship is a symbol of the soul. Everyone has their own ship. Someone holds it, someone lets it go, and someone has already let it go."
Kyi’s figure looks the tallest - his hands are raised up. Shchek is carefully looking at the boat in his hands. Khoryv is launching his boat on the Dnipro. The figure of the little girl - sister Lybid, can not be noticed right away. She is sitting a little to the side on a bronze bench, watching her brothers.
You could change the name every week if you wanted to, with this kind of signage.

One of the things we noticed in rural Kumbia south west of Kingaroy, Qld was not only how pristine it was but also laid back, in fact homes named from perhaps an earlier time that conveyed how the residents feel about their delightful town now they have aged. We have already had "Shangri-la" and now, this one is called "Kumbayah".
I have this feeling that many older flickr members will have strong memories of times past, perhaps in the 1960's and 70's when the song was particularly "groovy" - perhaps you can even remember where you were when you sang it!
Let's see if I can turn it up in case you have never heard it or because, once you remember, you will be singing it over and over for the next week! There are a few different spellings of some of these names, perhaps befuddled by the years. This version by our very own Aussie "Seekers".
Noticed this mass of brick and glass earlier today, and returned after sunset. Initially shot with the 24mm tilt-shift and they were okay. But when I tilted the entire camera downward, the towers flared outward, and realized it appeared more interesting. The 24mm wasn't wide enough, so returned with the Zeiss 15mm to capture it all.
Edmonton's downtown is transforming; new towers rising, and older towers are being re-clad.

amazing what one can do with a piece of paper (and some talent)
I'm sitting at work on Monday and I notice that it is getting darker outside. I figured it was going to rain, so I didn't pay it any more attention. Well it got a lot darker and I looked out the wondow and it was looking a bit nasty so I quickly went to www.wixt.com our news channel to look at the radar to see what was going on. In red right up at the top of the page was TORNADO WARNING. I know the difference between watch and warning adn all we have ever really gotten up here were watches, which means that the conditions are favorable to produce a tornado. THe warning means that something is up and you need to keep your eye to sky and pay attention to your surroundings because one is trying to form or one has already formed and is on the ground.
I quickly went over to the weather channel website and got more details. It was telling me that at 2:50 this storm would be right where I was. The time was 2:45. All I wanted to do was to get home to my house and my kids. School dismissal is at 2:50. I fly out the door at work, jump in the van, pull to the end of the driveway away from all the trees and come face to face with this lovely wall cloud. I'm telling you I almost wet my pants. Since I only live 5 miles away I figured I would get home rather quickly. Well I thought wrong. About a mile away from work I started getting pounded by hail that was the size of half dollars. It was so loud inside my van. The intensity and the loudness was just insane. The whole lasted for about 5 minutes but I swear it was the longest 5 minutes of my life. No tornado actually touched down, but it tried forming several times out of this wall cloud. This shows the time elapsed photography from our news website:

Went to West Virginia for a little get a way . When I stopped in a town for some gas and a bite to eat , I noticed this sign on the window of this house.(Looks to me like they are dealin" with one bad raisin!)
Thought I'd try some vintage grain to this since it seemed so blazay...this is the same house that is in "for sale" shot...just zoomed in. You'll notice the tin roof curled by the chimney. Wind or a tornado peeled it back many years ago. I love that oak tree. I know this looks unlevel but it's the failing roof and the slant of the land.
There are two Disney Store Limited Edition Brave items that were first noticed on the US Disney Store website on May 14, 2012, but were not part of the new arrivals group. In fact, when they were first noticed (by browsing on keyword 'brave') they were both already sold out. By next day, they were already not searchable by keyword (but the pages were still viewable via a direct link or product code). I wonder whether these were actually for sale at some earlier date, or are merely placeholders for a future release.
The items and web links to them are as follows:

It may be summer 2017, but I for one can't resist going somewhere along the Route Of The Hiawathas, getting a brief glimpse into the glory years of passenger train travel when the former Milwaukee Road equipment brings up the markers on Amtrak's Empire Builder. Maybe someday when these long distance trains are possibly removed due to budget cuts by our administration, some may wish that they had taken a few minutes out of their busy schedule of tracking down shiny new tier 4 GE's to witness a bit of history....maybe not.

Notice the gray crown on a female red-bellied woodpecker's head. Here's a decent look at her red belly too.
Notice the clothes they are wearing. Looks like they are playing it for the camera. The guy on the right has a camera at his waist. This was taken on the street where I was reared.
Something a little different--a crop of what I think is a Common Green Darner. I am struck by the jeweled beauty of insects, and that so many folks are too repulsed by them to notice!
Having only noticed this working when it was at the exit signal from the S.V.R. this was all a bit of a hurry, so we plumped for a spot that we knew would work. Again we were treated to 47565 Galloway Princess and 47805 Roger Hosking working 5Z47 Kidderminster S.V.R. to Crewe Holding Siding. The Duffs were conveying ex-Caledonian Mk3 sleeper having run down earlier with the rake of Mk3's they collected from Long Marston the previous week.

Rumble and tumble, I had to break up the fight between these three male monarchs. At first I was like may the best man win because I thought there was a lady involved. Then I noticed they were all three boys and someone was going to get hurt, so I tickled the tips of their wings until they went their separate ways.
The best thing about redscale film is that you have to overexpose it by at least a stop (some people say two). It gave me something to do with all the 800-speed 220 film I got in a bulk e-bay purchase, since I could shoot it at 200 instead.
But looking at this shot, I can't imagine that I'd have to shoot it at 100 to get what I'm after, but I guess it's possible. Of course, it's also expired film, so that may have something to do with it, too.
This is based on a pattern in the book Seams to Me from Anna Maria Horner. I made a few changes but basically it is steel covered by fabric and still needs to be attached to the wall.
Noticed this whilst driving past. The image is less than perfect and isn't as sharp as I would have liked as I didn't have time to set up properly or choose the correct camera settings.
The notice (which I think resembles a packet of "Benson & Hedges") warns customers to the Trafford Centre that they may not smoke beyond this point, but in fact they would be committing a criminal offence if they smoked BEFORE this point, or in any building to which there is public access.

Wilderness, shape, colour, perfume, rarity, strength, resilience and growing environment in wild beaches with dunes make this flower very appealing to me. I wanted to know more... A dedicated research was needed. You can read it in my comment boxes below :-)
According to the legend, the very first originary lily would have blossomed from Eve's tears when she was expelled from the earthly Paradise. Even St. Joseph and St. Anthony are frequently depicted with a lily in their hands... (My research here below).
Specification: read comment www.flickr.com/photos/white-angel/51841902653/#comment721... as this is in reality NOT a lily.
Shooting location: Salento, Puglia, Italy, directly on the dunes in front of the Ionian See.

Notice the unique markings on this goldfinch. A little research found partially leucistic markings such as this are not uncommon but I certainly haven't seen it in my observations until this one.
