Sunrise near Terrace, BC. It was about -15 or more with wind chill, so it was quite brutal standing out in the cold to get this shot!

Amazing adventure to the base of Kinuseo Falls in Monkman Provincial Park near Tumbler Ridge, BC. Kinuseo Falls falls 70 meters and it was spectacular to see it from the river!

Salmon Glacier

The 5th largest glacier in North America and the world’s largest road accessible glacier is a remnant of that last great age of glaciers; the Fraser Glaciation period.

Located just north of Stewart and only accessible by driving through Hyder, Alaska. You will drive through Hyder at sea level and then the road quickly climbs and heads back into B.C. The road was originally built for Granduc Mines. There are several gold mines along the route, some long ago shut down with others going full tilt.

Driving through remnants of avalanches and slides from the latest storm, it is not a road for the faint of heart. Shear cliffs down one side that are not forgiving if such an accident were to happen to put you over the edge.

Going from the first view point of the glacier, known as the ‘toe of the glacier’ to the summit viewpoint at 3370 ft the landscape drastically changes. The trees at the summit are of the alpine variety, very stunted and unusual growth. And of course snow drifts and hundreds of waterfalls. Absolutely stunning surroundings the whole 37km drive.

This is a 180 degree panorama showing the Atlin waterfront in the vicinity of the S.S. Tarahne, and the Atlin Inn. Atlin is a beautiful location, and possibly my favourite place in the world. The lake is gorgeous and the skies are almost always dramatic and beautiful.

This is the resident fox at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

Just spent a week at a friend's cabin on Clucutz Lake west of Prince George, BC. There were several species of birds visiting our beach daily including six White Pelicans. They usually flew bye when I didn't have my camera ready. Fortunatey, I was ready at this moment.

Some amazing fall weather enjoyed during a day trip to Atlin in northern British Columbia. On the way bback to Whitehorse, we were greeted by the beautiful fall colours and a sunshower complete with rainbow.

Photo taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro hand held. Image processed from raw in Lightroom with minor adjustments only.

I went out to get a sunset photo but as we climbed higher in elevation, clouds crowded in. I like the mood as the clouds closed in around the setting sun. By the time of the actual sunset, the clouds had taken over.

This photo was taken from the edge of Atlin Lake which is the largest natural lake in British Columbia and a part of what we in Yukon refer to as the "southern lakes," Atlin, Tagish, and Marsh being the three that come immediately to mind. All are large impressive wilderness lakes bordered by mountains, and hills. All are large enough to contain many islands both big and small. I took this photo looking across Atlin Lake towards, Atlin Mountain. What you can see here is just a very small part of a much bigger body of water that stretches for many miles to both the right and left--too far to see either end.

This photo was taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro. Raw conversion and post processing were performed in DxO PhotoLab 5.3.

And one of the many falls along the Creek. The emerald green of this creek is so beautiful and vibrant.

We followed this creek for some time on the back roads and found some amazing spots that one could spend their whole day relaxing and enjoying the sights and sounds of the creek.

Traveling in Northern BC right now and we are lucky that we have seen many bear - not all have liked to have their photos taken, but his one was as curious of me as I was of him or her.

They are so healthy and beautiful right now, filling up on the lush spring growth alongside the roads.

We went up to Hart Farm hoping to catch the Northern Lights over the water and were not disappointed. I'm posting two nearly identical shots because I couldn't decide which one I liked the best....

We found a new trail on our last visit to Atlin, and just knew that it would be the place to go when the autumn colours came. We weren't wrong. I took this photo about half way along the trail. The autumn colours were at their height and the valley was so beautiful it could take your breath away. I converted this image from raw with a few minor tweaks to exposure and colour. That's it. Again, what you see is as close as I can get to what I saw.

Cute frog. Don't know the species. We spotted it at a rest stop in Northern British Columbia, Canada. August, 2015.

A throwback to late autumn at Kittil falls. I love the orange green colour the moss goes after it’s been snowed on for the first time in the season. There are so many little known gems up here in Northern BC that rarely get any visits. British Columbia, Canada.

Love Life, Love Photography

I only had a short time at this old, now closed, railroad trestle near Dawson Creek in northeastern BC, and unfortunately, fences and signs prevented me from walking onto the structure. That said, this is one place that I'd like to spend more time in the future.

Photo taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko 7-14mm f/2.8 Pro, hand held. All post processing was performed in DxO PhotoLab 5.4.x. and in Nik Analog Efex Pro.

Creative Note: This photograph has been fairly heavily modified in post to stress the age, and physical presence of the trestle, and to highlight the atmosphere of the place. As usual, modifications were mainly limited to light, colour and contrast. I also corrected some unfortunate flairing from the ultra wide angle lens. Other than that, nothing has been added to or removed from the photograph.

SX70, PX680 film, taken in wind that was cold and blowing so hard it almost blew the polaroid right out of the camera. Thank goodness for the Impossible Project Cold Clip!

These falls are part of Waterfall Creek and the canyon that it flows through.

Another gem in this area that is worth the hike and side track – and a lot less mosquitos!

There are many spring flowers along the path as you walk into the falls.

Named after Don Nesbitt, a legendary local resident.

I was out exploring Atlin around sunset time and noticed that there was a light on in the old Globe Theatre. Someone inside must have been cleaning up after an event there a little earlier in the day. In any event, I took the opportunity to set up the camera and capture a few exposures of Pearl Avenue. I made a number of shots and was beginning my last set of three when a lone car, further up the avenue turned briefly down and lit the sides of some of the buildings. It was just what I was looking for, giving a sense of dimensionality to the structures that was missing in the dim light.

Naturally, I have processed this image a little to emphasize the look I wanted, but the atmosphere is as I remember it. This is a three exposure HDR which I have tried to make look as natural as possible. I am pleased with the result as it communicates the wonderful quiet and old feeling of Atlin quite faithfully in my opinion.

This is a view of Muncho Lake taken from the Alaska Highway in Northern British Columbia. Just ahead of where I was standing, the Alaska Highway begins to wind along the edge of the lake's east side. The lake is 11 Kilometres long, and is located at an elevation of 817 Metres above sea level.

The highway here crosses several alluvial fans, inclusing one the my immediate left. They are a great place to see animals such as Stone's Sheep, where they congregate around mineral licks.

This photo was taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 Pro hand held. Raw conversion and processing were performed in DxO PhotoLab 5.3.X. I had fitted my lens with a circular polarizing filter to help reveal the beautiful greens of the lake water in the distance.

This is a re-edit of a picture I took a couple of summers ago and was never happy with the way it looked. When I took this picture it was well into dusk and there was very little light. The resulting image is a noisier than I'd like but that wasn't the only problem. When I edited this image the first time,I had such a hard time getting the colour right and it ended up looking over-saturated. I tried it again an am much happier with the results.

Most commonly found in the northern parts of North America, the cross fox is a partially black color variation of the classic red fox (Vulpes vulpes). Often a cross between the red and silver fox. At one time the cross fox was considered to be a separate species from the red fox and was named 'Canis decassatus'.

The Salmon River is a braided stream surrounded by the coastal mountains which flows through both Hyder, Alaska, and British Columbia .

Fed by meltwater of the Salmon Glacier and then emptying into the Portland Canal, a narrow saltwater fjord approximately 145 km (90 miles) long.

Water levels seemed lower than usual in Atlin Lake and the exposed beaches were beautifully green as a result. This is the view from Pine Beach about 3kms up the Warm Bay Road from Atlin in Northern BC.

The largest natural lake in British Columbia is the setting for Atlin, a picturesque gold rush era town only two hours from Whitehorse. In this photo, the camera is looking out over the lake from downtown Atlin. The island in the middle is called First Island. The mountain in the background, Atlin Mountain. The whole area is one of incredible natural beauty.

A slightly uneven vehicle deck load to starboard combined with a course change to port gives this already strange looking stitch shot some extra unexpected curves.

Looking over part of Atlin Lake towards Atlin Mountain. In the mid foreground, a breakwater and pilings cast their reflections on the quiet surface. further in the distance, ice still obscures the lake surface all the way to the far side.
