Northern Shrike shots are few and far between for me.
I wish there was better detail on the head and bill here. On the other hand, the head in this shot illustrates a significant difference between a Loggerhead Shrike and this Northern Shrike.
The mask of a Northern Shrike is much thinner than the mask of a Loggerhead Shrike and does not wrap around the forehead.
The bill of the Northern Shrike is longer and has a very obvious raptor-like hook which the stubbier bill of the Loggerhead Shrike lacks.
Northern Shrikes are an inch longer in body length and have a wing span almost three inches longer than a Loggerhead Shrike.
Both Shrikes are songbirds, but are very aggressive predators.

The Northern Justice (IMO: 9450351) is a container ship registered and sailing under the flag of Portugal. Her gross tonnage is 94,419 tonnes, and her overall length (loa) is 332.85 m. Her container capacity is 8,400 TEU. She was built in 2010 by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, Okpo, Japan and is operated by V Ships Hamburg.
I photographed the Northern Justice as she passed through the mouth of the Swan River heading into the Fremantle Inner Harbour on 10 May 2023. Her last port of call was Adelaide. She was assisted by the tugs, Svitzer Albatross, Svitzer Eagle, Svitzer Harrier and Svitzer Redhead.
A Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) attempts to maintain its balance in the windy conditions while walking on the ice covered pond. The temperatures dropped to -10C on Sunday night and most of the ponds froze over in the area to the east of Tofield, Alberta, Canada so it it was investing times photographing these birds on the ice.

"A predatory songbird, the Northern Shrike breeds in taiga and tundra and winters in southern Canada and the northern United States. It feeds on small birds, mammals, and insects, sometimes impaling them on spines or barbed wire fences."

The Northern Waterthrush is a Wood Warbler. The common name is derived from its thrush-like behavior and plumage.
They forage around the shorelines of ponds and streams, usually in wooded areas.

The Northern Shovelers are in town. I think hundreds even - early in the morning they will be in big circling groups, shoveling away. Then suddenly they all take off. I have no idea where they go, but they might be there in the same spot the next morning, and the next, shoveling away. Some day, if I can get in movie mode, it would be a fun movie I think but the still pics just don't cut it. Anyway, this guy was practicing his wing beats with a buddy off stage left.

This Northern Shoveler is aptly named. I've never seen one this far south in Florida but one was here visiting. It was alone and I caught it as it was leaving the area. Having looked it up I believe it is a non-breeding male. When in breeding form, it is even more striking and other than shape, hardly resembles the non-breeding phase. (Anas clypeata)
