"The Speicherstadt (lit. city of warehouses, meaning warehouse district) in Hamburg, Germany is the largest warehouse district in the world where the buildings stand on timber-pile foundations, oak logs, in this particular case. It is located in the port of Hamburg—within the HafenCity quarter—and was built from 1883 to 1927. It was awarded the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site on 5 July 2015." (from Wikipedia)
A flock of Northern Pintails (Anas acuta) hightail it from a wetland as we drive by in our vehicle. These northern migrants are very skittish at this time of year and seldom stay around for a photo opportunity. There were lots of small flocks on the melt water pons on the agricultural landscape south of Tofield, Alberta, Canada.

Northern Hawk Owls are diurnal or day time hunters. They will hunt all day, consuming what they need and caching the rest.
They hunt a variety of small mammals including Shrews, Mice, and Voles, as well as small birds.

The Northern Pygmy-Owl may be tiny, but it's a ferocious hunter with a taste for songbirds. These owls are mostly dark brown and white, with long tails, smoothly rounded heads, and piercing yellow eyes. They hunt during the day by sitting quietly and surprising their prey.

Northern wheatear, Oenanthe oenanthe, kivitasku, Finland.
It's not so common to see two wheatears on a same perch as usually an individual would push the other one away when arriving. I have captured them through canopy to hide myself but also to smoothen the surroundings.
Wheatears are among my favourite birds and what's not to like: they're colourful, showy and fun to watch. Sometimes they present an identification challenge which is not necessarily a bad thing.

These owls are mostly dark brown and white, with long tails, smoothly rounded heads, and piercing yellow eyes. They hunt during the day by sitting quietly and surprising their prey. As a defensive measure, songbirds often gather to mob sitting owls until they fly away. Mobbing songbirds can help you find these unobtrusive owls, as can listening for their call, a high-pitched series of toots."
Another shot from a great opportunity yesterday.
For my contacts not familiar with this Owl species, I added the information below taken from Wikipedia.
The Northern hawk-owl (Surnia ulula) is a medium sized true owl of the northern latitudes. It is non-migratory and usually stays within its breeding range, though it sometimes irrupts southward. It is one of the few owls that is neither nocturnal nor crepuscular, being active only during the day.
The Northern hawk-owl has been said to resemble a hawk in appearance and in behavior. In North America, its appearance in flight is often considered similar to a Cooper's hawk (Accipiter cooperii). It has been suggested that this may be because the hawk- owl may partially fill an important diurnal niche similar to that of day hunters such as hawks.
