Ran into a problem with using an ambient occlusion map. I ended up checking "normalize" in the bake settings and applying the texture using "multiply" on top of a properly black-colored base material. Note that when I say I used the "multiply" setting, I'm talking about in the textures panel and not the AO panel.
If I didn't do it this way, it ended up looking either too flat or too dark. What's the proper way to make AO maps work?

The first image above is a normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) image of north Dublin, Ireland. The lush Lambay island can clearly be seen, as well as the Rogerstown Estuary. The image below is a reconstructed RGB image. Comparing the two images, we can see the benefit of incorporating IR data into the NDVI image - it's much easier to see the delineations between land and ocean, and even between separate land types. The different types of fields are very easy to differentiate in the NDVI image.

Nirje (1924-2006) defined Normalization as "making available to all mentally retarded people patterns of life and conditions of everyday living which are as close as possible to the regular circumstances and ways of life of society"
1. SI: People have learned to normalize the bad state of streets and communal spaces, leading to a scarcity of caring to fix them.

3. Idea: I wanted to capture what a (hopefully) abandoned fire hydrant looks like in an urban cityscape. (96)
